Beyond just the basics, like eliminating the iso's, I would think it would be trial and error on adjustments. What do the rules state that you can and cannot do? Any gusseting? Any aftermarket beefing, like using bigger tie rods and solid adjustment sleeves?

I would say, get yourself a pack of shims for the camber (and caster) adjustments on the upper control arm so you can keep making the adjustments you want.

Lock 'em down! A lot of times it's hard to get these to torque properly once they've been disturbed. Make sure the "teeth" on the bar are in good shape, even if you have to take a file or grinder to clean up the depth. The rust build up usually makes the danged teeth useless in being able to torque the bolts, allow the control arm to slide instead of looking in.

Robert already mentioned some of this stuff but heres an example of what you might do....you might even go with a tubular upper control arm or add gussets to it also

shouldn't he have reinforcements from the recall on his upper control arm? They attach to the bolts on the bar.

Kevin
They are called recall brackets...they actually were part of a recall campaign to help stiffen up the upper control arm rod....

Eric,

Those are them. Mine are on my car. I think those should be installed, or something similar fabricated, especially since he will be racing.

I used to race an A body in roundy round and we would shorten up the right upper A arm we could get lots of camber angle and shorten left lower to give it opposite camber angle, this really helps with wieght trasfer in turns. Read up on tire stagger and wedge and the effects it will have on your car. If you can run wieght jacks do so, you can adjust front torsion bars like jacks to lowwer left side to help the car turn left. Back off left rear brake a little this will also help you go left under braking:toothy10:

Back in my roundy days, (class called showroom stock) no jacks allowed, no adj shocks, shocks in stock locations, no aftermarket a arms, ie: basically a stock car as from factory in the suspension, steering, braking. But my fav trick was to cut a 16 penny nail off (maybe an inch long now with no head, removing the left front brake line inserting nail and bleed brakes. The left front then has only about 25% braking due to restriction, but would pass tech when checked. (jack up front of car and spin tires and apply brakes) Just a way of cheating @ the time...

I don't know how much those brackets would stiffin up upper control arms ..... but F M J bodies were NOTORIOUS for the upper control arms to fall in during an aggressive bump or maneuvering .... can't tell you how many i aligned in backyard days for this ...

Were the recall/brackets for ALL '76's? or just the v-8 cars? I havent looked on mine to see if they are there or not.... Just curious, Not that I drive the car that aggressively and probably never will....
