I agree. Don't know if this has been mentioned or not, pull your engine oil dipstick & smell for raw fuel. It sounds like a float, needle seat, dirt, or a poor rebuild. Are you confident in your abilities to rebuild a carb? If not, maybe purchase a carb with a warranty, or have someone with experience do it. Is the original carb still on the car? Or was it exchanged for a rebuild? Which, if any of the tips have you tried. The first place to look, is the last place the guy before you did. Sounds like carb related. We're the vacuum lines hooked back up? Blocked off? Did you check them against the diagram?

IF it is feed back carb maybe a broken wire. I suggest starting over again giving a complete information of what happened, what you have tried to fix it and a better description of the car. . stock modified if so how. You should also know that a car is a car with all basically all the same parts. Example A bad plug wire will act the same on a Chrysler, olds, ford, or a porche. If you can fix a ols you can fix this

Okay... in my opinion, this all needs to be reset. We have two people posting under the same name and posting stuff in different areas of the forum.

In order for us to help you: both of you, please, create your own user names, post information from each screen name. One of you posts something, one of you posts something else, or added information. It would help keeping it all straight if we knew exactly who we were speaking to. Post everything under the same thread. A lot of us come in and hit the "what's new" button. We'll see when you post to the thread and see when someone else posts to it. We can add and suggest things from there.

That would then help us keep track of the information and keep it all straight.

I'm sorry, but it seems like you're chasing your tail. The driveability issue that's been described from the first post seems like a lot of parts being thrown at something and diagnostics that aren't going to lead to the problem. Describe for us, in detail, everything the car has been doing and what's been done to help us help you. I'm reading posts here from guys I've known over the internet for a while now (I was user #5 on this site) and those posts are reading of exasperation. The last thing we need - and you need - is for the folks you're asking for help to get frustrated at you.

I thought the website was hiccuping since I was seeing the double posts with different dates. So is it the carb? It got really tough to follow. If carb, I'm still loving my Edelbrocks, so I recommend a 600 performer with a electric choke and mopar bracket. My suggestion.

Yes......
Please re read what ramneth has just said and please keep one issue to one thread.....you can get all the help you need here but when things get scattered and silly everyone will lose interest and in turn you will not get the help you need.

You also have to decide who furiousman is going to be.
You and your father seem to have differing opinions and if you're both posting under the same name things get somewhat ridiculous.
If you want to sound in you should register your own user name.

furiousman's son said:
hey this is his son. This is what im finding. as i go to turn the key its getting fuel i can smell it undeniably when i do get it to crank it sounds strong when i floor it but as soon as she warms up i get nothing but a real loud air sucking when i go to floor it im thinking its idle air mixture would i be correct in my thinking

It idles fine? But then you give is a shot of gas it dies. Am I reading that correctly?

Accelerator pump, choke isn't pulling off, or the secondary air door is out of whack.

You've said something about the carb before. You said the rebuilt carb is gone? What carb are you using now, where did it come from? This is important. You keep mentioning Olds in your posts. This being an '87, an AHB, I'm assuming it's a Rochester. If you're using a GM Quadrajet, it won't work on the Chrysler intake. It'll bolt but the baseplates are different. It might idle fine, but the minute you hit the throttle it'll suck wind like no tomorrow around the baseplate.

This is one of the reasons you guys have to give us complete - I mean complete - information.

FSM has all the procedures, intake Tq , Head Tq, proper instructions make for an easy install. Did you chase the threads and remove excess oil from the blind threads? Checking block for straightness with the head on(no gasket) , you have a feeler gauge? You should check for dowel pins bottoming out if the heads were surfaced. Are you reinstalling the factory exhaust manifolds or going with headers? The smog ports will have to be plugged if you're using headers.
