I cut methanol with some 100 octane street gas. Can't do too much since the methanol pulls in water and the stuff is nasty

Up the road about a mile from my house, the Rib Mt. Petro Mart has 110 race fuel at the pump. Last I checked it was $7.49/gal. Unfortunately it's leaded off road use only. You can only pump into a can OR a race car (or other off road vehicle like a snowmobile or rock crawler) on the trailer. Also, unfortunately, the police know what it smells like when it burns. Unleaded race fuel smells different (still good!) and is legal for road use. Know someone that got busted for running the leaded 110 on the street, $500 fine. It's leaded for one but also only has sales tax, not the 52 cents/gal tax road fuel has in this state. For whatever reason, there's no stations with unleaded race fuel. Best we can get is ethanol free 91 octane premium (for $2.84/gal right now). There's also 93 octane but it's "up to 10% ethanol" crap. Fine for a modern car with a fuel system built for ethanol but not for our cars.

race gas does smell a lot different then pump grade fuel. the best pump fuel in my area is 93 octane. the C12 that I run is 108 octane.

The choices around here are 87 "up to 10% ethanol", 87 ethanol free (about 20 cents/gal more than up to 10%), 89 and 93 "up to 10% ethanol and 91 ethanol free for legal road use. Well I mean, there's also diesel and a some of the bigger stations have E85 in the warm months.
Funny thing is, some outfit tested gasoline from a bunch of stations in the metro area and the "up to 10% ethanol" is actually anywhere from 0% to the highest found of 6%. Majority was only in the 2-4% range.

There's a guy around here with a 73 Road Runner.
Not sure what is setup for but it's some kind of race gas.
Guess he can't get it or can't afford the gas anymore cause is been just sitting for at least a couple of years.

Wow, cops here cant smell anything for the doughnut odor on their clothes. Used to get the AVGAS and run that when I wanted to heat the tires. You just have to change the plugs after a while... ;-)

When I was pumping gas back in high school in the early 90s 10 gallons of fun could be had for $9.99, or less, and he charged an extra .05/gallon because we were "full service"..:eusa_wall:

over the 18 months or so I was there I saw the price fluctuate by as much as 2-3 CENTS a gallon.. Summer, winter, didn't matter. If it went up one week, It'd go back down the next. And overall it only went up by MAYBE 4 or 5 cents from when I started to 2 years later.. Shame we don't have the technology we had back then to stabilize these prices....

79410, do you bump up your timing with the race gas?

no I don't. I had my dist locked at 32* the past 2 seasons. it made the most power on the dyno at 32* with the C12 fuel. i have never tried other fuel.

this year i 'unlocked' my dist. the hot hard starts was to much for me, so i have the timing coming in at 2800-3000 rpm this season.

Well, about 3 or 4 years ago 87 octane was $4.65/gal around here compared with the $2.35-$2.45 it's been for the past few months. When it was over $4 a gallon, THEN bitching was required!
