Would one of you gentlemen please post a pic of how you store the jack wrench and tire. I have a new to me rather nicely kept 88 5th Avenue that came from the father in law. The tire jack and wrench was just tossed into the trunk before it got to me. There is no jacking instructions sticker in the trunk and the manual has jacking instructions but no diagram as to how to store the spare and tools. I have tried several configurations but none seem right. I am tried of hearing the tools and tire clunking around back there. :confused2:

The spare goes in upside down. Place the jack inside the spare. You'll have to open the jack up to where it fits nicely inside the spare. Should be a large j-bolt and a wingnut that goes through the both of them to hold everything together.

By the way, welcome aboard!

Thanks,
A bit of follow up. The handle has a hole in it so I suspect it goes over the bolt too. Does it go under the tire or in the back upside down side, above or below the jack? And does the bolt go through the center or more likely I think a lug hole to keep it from sliding around. :toothy11:
A nice close up photo of the trunk sticker would be great so I can make me a new one.

Yes, the bolt goes through a lug hole. Tire, jack, handle, wingnut.

Thanks,
Its 31F and bright outside right now so I think I will wait till it warms a bit before I mess with the spare again.

I figured out with a little help from a fuzzy picture of the jacking instructions label that had been wet (another site), how these suckers go in. :laughing5:
Make sure your bolt is oriented correctly. In the first hole/slot and the bend to the drivers side.

The jack has to be open about 10", look for the marks in the paint since it looks like they painted them open at storage height. Ignore the holes near the top scissor pivot, that is for the bolt on another car. Lean the tire on the flats on the shelf it sits on, backside up and valve stem toward you. You did check the pressure in the tire right? :tongue11: Place the jack in with the hex end of the screw to the rear, and the ground end to the passenger side.

Now slide the tire up and back guiding the bolt through the pilot hole. The bolt should go to the left of the jack screw. With the socket end of the wrench folded in, place the handle over the bolt rounded side up with the pry bar end forward resting on the rim. Spin on the wing nut. Notice the socket end of the handle and the top of the jack and the hex end of the jack screw go down in the rim as you tighten and the foot of the jack goes up. Both the handle end of the wrench and the jack screw rest on the tire / rim.

And at last. Stuff your crap you are going to carry in the tire in. Pull the cover over the tire, putting the end of the bolt into the little grabber thing stitched into the center of it.

And now all is right with the world, the force is aligned, ready for the trumpet call. :hello2: Time for a frosty beverage :icon_jook:
(BTW this is a 88 5th Ave)

Your twitpic pics are red x's. If they don't have an tag they are not going to work.[/quote]
They look fine to me. They should have a thumb and then a link to my twitpic account for the large version.

Purged my cash, restarted, and they still look good.

Something does not look right.? The jack should sit down in the tire rim. Maybe the wrong jack?

I thought it looked something more like this, with jack on the bottom?

That tire seems to be sitting in a well not up on the package shelf like this 5th Ave. Granted its a rough picture. also the bolt looks like a hook and the 5th's is pinned in place, plus there is no space under the tire for the jack, That was the first thing I tried before I found the label. I saved the image of the jacking instructions on another computer, I will post it later when I get to that machine.

The label pic is grainy and the label water damaged, but here it is.

Nope. He did it the proper way for the M-body.

I was going to take a pic of the jack storage instructions off my Dip, but the years of sun on the dark brown melted the adhesive and the sticker is long gone.

The spare has never been out of my 1988 5th Ave but unfortunately it is in secured storage for the Winter season so I can’t do a physical check on proper tire storage or take a pic.

I would add that the rifle goes in the gun rack.
Tomorrow, I should free up and can take a picture of the spare in my 87 fifth avenue.
Its been in and out a couple of times, so we shall see how it compares.

Do I get extra points for doing this in 17 mph wind with gusts up to 24 mph in 39 degree weather???
