The two horns on our 80 Volare are apparantly rotted internally. They will make a noise but very muted and croaky sounding.

Figured it was just out of adjustment, bad ground etc......but looked at all that and no change.

There rust bubbling around the horn element case so I figure water got in there, did it dirty work etc.

I am guessing GENUINE NOS horns will require taking a second mortgage on the house......so what aftermarket horns have proven to be good and loud and reliable and last a while?

If looking for a used horn – they fit pretty much everything Chrysler from mid (early?) ‘60’s to ’90 or so (including pickups) – except for the Road Runner horn (which will fit but sounds/looks different).

IF you can get a new horn for the price of a used one – then you can’t beat that, at all.

Note: they make a LO and a HI horn. They are marked on the horn as to which one is which.
Generally the bad one will make you think the other one has croaked (sic) as well.
In most cases 1 horn is all you need.

To test, I recommend unplugging both, and with a helper, have them hold horn button down, and plug each one in separately (not all of the way in).
That way you have control of the horns – not your helper.

Hi horn part number 2808869
Lo number 2808868
BudW.

FYI,
If you have a low end car (like my ’77 wagon), they only come with one horn.
You can make a jumper or find a used 5th Ave, get the jumper and the second horn (and its bolt) and presto, you now have two horns (twice as horny?).

Those NOS horns came with multiple brackets to fit different applications They are not fixed brackets like OE. The NOS horn brackets are held on with a nut. So they do work but look different from the OE horn.

I forgot about that – but yes.

I am sick and tired of the ‘90’s and ‘00’s car and truck horns either dying on me or sounding very weak. The ‘60’s - '80's horns are great. They do die every once in a while but for most part, work great and sound better/better attention getters.

Then there's 'Blow Me', that's down on Third, there's 'King Toot',- he's down on Third, 'Horny Mike's' on Third and Ye Ol' Horns down in the horn district.
Come to think about it, they're all located in the Horn District on Third.

I remember my father getting the horns off a few big cars like Buicks and Chryslers from the late '50's which were still in the scrap yards in the '70's. They were big...and LOUD!

One of the things I don’t like is today’s horns – just don’t get anyone’s attention.

I don’t use the horn often, but when I do – I want to get attention.
Well, let me say NOT “air horn” attention grabbing - but more than what todays cars will do.

Some cities do not allow for air horns – so you might want to check on that before ordering.

Sorry, I didnt get any horn-e-mail.:D

I have a few about...yeah, about one from every car I've parted!:p

I'll check the 80 latch bracket assemblies for good doubles.
