I am in SE Tx 1 hr N of Houston. I could thin the herd some. I have a 79 Volare SE slan
t car, NO rust out of cent
ral Tx, runs drives good, new tires, new rad., Was SE I took off the trim, still hvaem I have smoothed out some door dings, and primered those. bumpers, glass perfect, $3500 good title.

I'm curious though, why are these a PITA? Any worse then dropping a magnum into an early A body?
Ahh, ok, so I'll correct myself and say, I'm new to _these_ cars. Sounds like a lot of the same problems from the early A realm.
Maybe sticking with ealy 70's A's are the better route. Depends on what I can find I suppose.

If it was a choice between 67-76 A or ANY 76-80 I'd go with A body because parts are available new used and repop..and alot easier

Cars that were considered dog meat a few years ago are now bringing good money. The cars we used to buy and drive, like Cudas and Boss Mustangs are rich guy toys now so people are looking for old car alternatives. AMC's are starting to climb. I notice clean Cordobas are going a lot higher now and decent F bodies are very hard to find now and the prices are creeping up. As was stated, parts availability is not that good either. As an AMC collector I am faced with the situation of soaring car values for what I already own (and anything I may want to buy), and very low parts availability. This will become an issue for a lot of the non-famous Mopars in the very near future. It will be hard to spend say $20,000 for a Volare that needs a light resto, then search for ten years for parts for it. That's a bad spot to be in

Been this way since the 80;s, Guy wants a "muscle car", fill in the make and model. He wants a pretty well : rust free, decent paint, ( a certain color no less),decent interior, runs and drives pretty god, and he wants one where he can fix a few small details, NOT a show car mind you ( but pretty darn nice), and wants it for really really really cheap!! Oh yea, he wants it to be sitting just one block over in his city!!!
I love working on these old cars, have loved it since about '85. They come and go. I love the hunt. I hate dealing with selling any of them.

I agree. I have noticed the increasing asking prices for F's even since I bought OY in 2012. I had a very hard time finding a nice four speed wagon to begin with, having looked for several years to find one with little to no rust before I found OY in Colorado on EB, and I am sure that I would not be able to find one at all for what I paid for it then. I am also aware of how difficult parts are to find for F's, and that is why I have bought two "parts wagons" remotely, one in Virginia, and one all the way out in Oklahoma, to strip for the parts and leave the carcass. I decided I wanted a nice set of the plaid SE interior seats and door panels, and having looked for quite a while, found the wagon in OK with a nice plaid interior and a nice set of Road Wheels along with some other hard to find parts like the remote passenger mirror and complete setup for the rear hatch stereo speakers. I bought it on the sellers word and after getting pics and a video, drove out, stripped it and left the carcass. I also got a ton of parts from a Aspen wagon in Virginia that was listed on CL, including doors, hatch, trim, interior, power steering, and many other parts. Not that I particularly needed anything, but I wanted to get them while they were there for a decent price. I left that carcass too for the seller who was only too willing to scrap it for additional $$. I may or may not need these parts in the future, but it costs me nothing to store them and might save a lot of time and $$ if I ever do. I am obviously willing to travel to get what I want and have long since given up on finding anything locally. The F's are getting scarce, so "strike while the iron is hot" as the saying goes.

I agree. I tried to buy a 3 spoke steering when other day. I was amazed at the asking price, with shipping. I know USPS has gotten high, but that same wheel in a desirable Duster or Dart would be half the price asked. I let the wheel go. Or I can ask a price on a F body for sale site of Facebook, and they don't even respond. I guess guys back East just sell to the many guys just down the road.
Side note. I saw on the car TV channel some large indoor winter car shows there were some totally restored and cool GM colonnade cars. The GM brothers to our F bodies but NOT near as cool!!!
I'm seeing nice GM's and they don't go all that high. A clean 442 for under 20K. You could easily pay that for a clean F body or vintage Mopar big block police pack. I collect AMC. Most of what I have, I got in the 80's or early 90's. Stuff was very cheap, nobody wanted it. Old LAPD Matadors were under 3 grand in running condition. Decent Gremlins now go near 10 and climbing. SC Ramblers get very close to 50 now. Mopars are unibody and known for rust, which makes restoration much more expensive. When you see some of those "muscle cars" that look so perfect, their recent resto was easily $80,000. My last one was north of that, and I'm not counting the two parts cars and all of the parts I already had when I got the car. This is quickly becoming a rich man's hobby. It's sad when you see people fly over from Dubai, Moscow or Tokyo and buy up all these cars and crate them up and leave with them.

There are 2 ways to do this old car hobby. First you pay the $$$ for a done car or have a sop do it all. Second, YOU learn to do the work, and do it to the stardard that YOU want. Screw what anyone else thinks.
Have a friend down the road. He loves old hot rods, has a cool flat head T bucket HE built, It will get pant from a BRUSH> They did it that way back in the day and it suits HIM fine. He does not want it shiny and perfect!!
The hobby is about smiles per mile, and how much fun per $ or hour spent!

Yep. That's how I remember learning about the old car hobby from my father. As I have said before, OY is not an investment in anything by my own pleasure. Money and other peoples opinions have not much to do with it.

It's a 79, 318, A904 auto daily driver... I drive it to work regularly when theres no snow. Rust-free west coast car.

The average guy wants a great looking, rust free driver, for cheap, just 10 mile down the road not 15000 mi away!! Me too!! lol
Really, the above M body i a nice car, and cars like that are worth the cost of freight if that i the desired model!! JMHO

Thanks @Jonnyuma, looks nice but looking for something smaller. in a perfect world (ducking), we'd find a nice ealy 70's A body, but the F bodies are cool too hence the ad. That said, I didn't specify, but thanks for posting the car. It's nice, just not what we're looking for. I'll edit the original post.
