Hood Scoop ??.⁶

I'm intending to spend tomorrow installing a "Ramchargers Hood Scoop" on my 79 Aspen RT. I recently noticed a rather elaborate network of bracing on the bottom of the hood near wear the hole has to be cut. Is there anything I need to know or watch out for? Obviously body work is not my strong suit. Thanks.

9SECRR , Thank you for the pictures and the great advice. The whole project went well thanks to you telling me to not worry about the reinforcements. I didn't expect the engine center to be slightly right and I'm still not sold on moulding tape holding it on , but we'll see what happens. Again many Thanks !!

For a hood scoop to work properly you need to seal the bottom of the air cleaner to the bottom of the hood so the engine only receives air from outside the engine compartment. I would recommend opening up the hole as large as possible and fabricating a large air box around the air cleaner that seals to the bottom of the hood. Otherwise your hood scoop becomes more of a vent than a scoop…
 
Looks good! If you're really worried about flow path to the carb, you could get one of those K&N filters to replace the air cleaner lid and call it a day

Thanks for the positive response. I really like the look myself. Had the same scoop on my race car, (Charger) , in the 70's. That one was sealed to the hood , but we'll see where this one goes. Racing "Super Stock " on weekends was long ago! LOL!!!

Try it and see if your car doesn’t pick up some mph with a little free forced air… mine did and needed a little more jet.

Also if I remember correctly your car doesn’t have a stock engine compartment to retain heat like most of the cars here do so the comparison is irrelevant.

my black R/T had a stock engine compartment that i'm talking about. my blue RR is not stock anything lol
 
I believe every factory functional hood scoop was sealed from the engine compartment so it only took in cold air from outside the engine compartment. I could be wrong but I can’t remember one.
