Some of the doors could be electric. They are on Chryslers, i don't know how far they got into the automatic temperature control on the others. I think AC comes out of the front vents and heat comes out of the defrost and floor. It won't make a difference if AC works or not it's not smart...

Are both heater hoses hot at the fire wall? If they are chances are good it's not the heater core and something else like blend door actuator is the problem.

Try pulling at it or trying to make it retract while pushing the black plunger thing in the door jamb multiple times while youre doing it. It's part of the tension setup and might make it do something. Otherwise maybe it'll be more clear once it's removed from the car what's wrong with it.

How much cranking? That can be normal as the gas in the carb evaporates. Some are worse for that then others.

when my 79 one went it started pinging badly. Like AMC Diplomat said check the service manual, there is a procedure to test them in there that doesn't require any special equipment. The performer intake doesn't have actual 4 barrel size ports but they are bigger so if any of the 2barrel size gasket depends on those areas to seal it'll have problems. Best to stick to the 4 barrel size. Also use rtv rather then the Cork end gaskets.

yes especially when you already know you have sealing issues. But if everything else on the engine is original it could very well also have dried out valve seals. Both are more likely then head gasket.

Have you thought of cutting an area out for clearance and making a cover for it? One of my cars that's what the factory did. Makes getting to the sender so much easier.

Looks like 1213 is the 4bbl size and 1243 is 2bbl size. From pics neither of those look like they have he holes in the middle. Which even if you aren't running EGR it still needs for the choke if you're using a stock setup. = Fel pro MS90109 has that.
