Hello:

Looking to match the best Fel-Pro or other intake gasket.

1985 Diplomat 318 with stock factory roller heads---was a 2bbl car.
Edelbrock 2176 Performer Intake

Currently using the Edelbrock gasket and have leaking....need to reseal and want to make sure I am using the best option for this intake/head combination.

I am confused about the difference between the Fel-Pro 1213 and 1243.

This car is a driver---not looking to block off the heat cross over.

I am after something that will not leak and work appropriately.

Any discussion or recommendation are appreciated.

thanks

Looks like 1213 is the 4bbl size and 1243 is 2bbl size.
From pics neither of those look like they have he holes in the middle. Which even if you aren't running EGR it still needs for the choke if you're using a stock setup. = Fel pro MS90109 has that.

Definitely Leaking Oil and I am confident vacuum. Just not as smooth as it should be…especially at idle and low throttle.

I am also getting one oily plug—rear most drivers side.

The electrode is oily—I do not recall this being an issue prior to the intake swap—but I cannot say with certainty.

Cylinder is firing. Not sure if this is related to a bad intake gasket??? Thoughts?

Needs to be resealed—but I want to do it right.

Thanks.

so you have an aluminum intake? did you remove the cork gasket retaining pins from the block? there are no indents on the bottom of the edlebrock to accept those pins, causes the intake to sit too high..

in this picture you can see the holes on either end on the valley rail

Well…The Edlebrock intake is definitely aluminum and I do not recall removing the centering pins from the block…so this would definitely be part of the problem. So the intake absolutely needs removed and resealed.

Fel pro MS90109 or other?

Appreciate this observation. Just didn’t think about those pins…

I’ve had problems with all intakes not just Edelbrock but particularly Edelbrock manifolds not being machined quite right. Usually the base that seals across the block needs a few thousands removed but I’ve had a couple that I’ve had to cut all three sides. One of my 440 Victors had to be cut to align the runners and a sbf air gap the angles were wrong so you need to check everything every time…

Maybe a dumb question—but could a bad intake seal be also causing oil to leak INTERNALLY into the #7 cylinder?

I’m getting a wet electrode on the plug—not external oil on the plug. The cylinder is firing

Trying to decide if I’m gonna pull off the heads when I reseal the intake.

yes especially when you already know you have sealing issues. But if everything else on the engine is original it could very well also have dried out valve seals. Both are more likely then head gasket.

Ok now I am looking at the

FEL-PRO MS90009 (factory 2bbl applications)

vs

FEL-PRO MS90109. (factory 4bbl applications)
MS90009 appears to be stamped steel
MS90109 appears to be a composite material
The difference being the 'small' vs 'large' ports.
Does the port size that Fel-Pro is referring to here relate to the intake or head? Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question.
Again---I am using a 4bbl intake on factory 2bbl heads.
If I am not mistaken, a 4bbl car in 1985 had different heads.

thanks
