Yes, I still have it ('76 Volare Premier Coupe update)

Okay, priced out everything on Summit i want to do to up the 318's performance, and it comes up to about $2k. That's not including everything to get it street legal and running properly, that's just upgrades for after everything else is sorted. Anyone in the market for a (heavily used) kidney?

Thanks BudW for all that info! I have the FSM books, I have a steering wheel puller (somewhere), and I have a good amount of automotive electronics wherewithal, I was just thinking to go cheap and easy. But you're right, the short might be a quick fix, it wouldn't hurt to take a look. I'm not...

Well, I have a small business making costumes for historical reenactment, I jst need to get fabric and churn out some stuff and the money will come eventually. My husband wants to help with the car, but he's not very mechanically inclined so he can only really help financially. Between the two...

Okay, an update on the update: Thinking about saying goodbye to the 318 and swapping in a 360 Magnum, maybe wait a bit on that and get what fun out of the 318 that I can. I haven't had much of a chance to even look at the Volare since my last post, except in fleeting glances as I look out my...

My Volare has three pedals too! Gas, brake, and parking brake :p

Mine looks a shade darker than that, but it could just be the lighting. I know what I'm doing with the wiper bushings, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. As for AT vs. MT, I prefer manuals, but an auto is fine for what I want to do with it (hoon around the countryside, maybe come in last at...

Good to know! That'll save me some time and money, not having to convert to manual.

Yeah, I figured. Still, dreaming can't hurt. More likely I'll just clean up the engine, maybe new headers, carb, etc, and just drive it 'til it explodes. I was thinking of a junkyard turbo setup, and summit has an EFI TB for the 318, or I could probably just pull one off something else. Hell, I...

It's more the repairs it needs than the inspection itself. But I applied for a new job the other day and if I get it, I'll be making enough to start fixing it up. The job is at A Certain Major Retail Store, installing car electronics (which I specialized in while I was at tech school). I'd be...

Okay so maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration but the point is, I can't afford to get the thing street legal :p

Well, it's about that time again: time to talk about my Volare. I haven't really touched it since last year, though last time I started it, it fired right up. I wouldn't want to try that again until I drain the tank and put fresh gas + stabilizer in there, the gas in that tank is a couple years...

Latest news on my 76 Volare

Ok, it's raining so I couldn't do much, but I looked under the plastic cowl and sure enough, the linkage is in pieces. I guess the next nice day I'll be taking the whole thing out. Also! I checked the clips and they're a perfect match! that's two out of three things that I have a clear plan...

Latest news on my 76 Volare

Oh, that's good to know! I was going to do it the hard way, which because I have (or, had) A/C in the car is so much harder than it has to be. But if I can just pop off a few bolts, take the whole thing out, and do it on the bench, that sounds much better! Edit: And dang it, I forgot to check...

Latest news on my 76 Volare

Holy crap, I may have actually found the clips. I won't know until tomorrow, but from the picture they look about right, part #6003219 if I'm not mistaken. I hope it's the right one!

Latest news on my 76 Volare

So, it's been a while, and not much has happened. A lot of this will be rehashing what I've said before. The Volare has been sitting, in theory it still runs but it desperately needs an oil change before I put any miles on it. Right now what it NEEDS to pass inspection is the wiper linkage and...

    OK, show your stalled project

I found ones that'll probably work on eBay, if they don't I'll let y'all know so I can send them off to someone who can use them. But they look right, and they specifically said for the Volare, the clips that hold the trim around the vinyl. I hope they fit, it'll be one little step in the right...

    OK, show your stalled project

My '76 Volare project is stalled, due to lack of funds. The wiper linkage bushing is broken, the horn doesn't work, and it needs shocks, just to get it inspected. On the list of things to do after all that's sorted are to finish the A/C delete (right now the compressor is acting as an idler...

Well, I didn't get the job. Oh well, back to searching.

    Update on my '76 Volare

Yeah, I'm just concerned because I know how easily the '76 rusts. Though I'm sending it to a tech school to get the body work done some time in the future, let them deal with the rust. I don't have a welder anyway. The undercarriage actually looks remarkably good, most of the rust is on the body.

I had an interview the other day

It's okay, there aren't many girls getting jobs in the auto tech field, so it's an easy mistake to make. I was one of only two girls in my tech class, and the other one got pregnant and dropped out.

    Ma'am, actually, but thank you!

I had an interview the other day

Good luck to you too! This is just the first place I've applied to, I'm gonna be looking at a couple other places. I'd be starting as an entry level tech, doing very basic jobs and taking out trash and stuff like that. I don't mind though, I spent four years as a dishwasher, this will be an...

I had an interview the other day

So with me getting my inspection licenses back, I decided to start job hunting. I applied for a tech position at a Firestone, and within eight hours I got a call asking if I could come in for an interview that same day. I think the interview went well, they asked me some tech questions and I'm...

    Update on my '76 Volare

This is the Volare today :( I don't have a cover or garage space so it sits out in the snow. Ah well, we're planning on having it repainted anyway, I just hope snow and meltwater don't get in too much, the weather stripping is cracked and needs replacing. --- Post updated --- Well, the Volare is...
