Someone is dreaming $3,500?

Looks like it would be a struggle to get $500 for it.

Hard to price. Being a CHP car adds value and there are people who would probably pay $500 for that chp push bar alone. But that car needs a lot of work.

There was a day when those were about seven or eight years old and I could buy them for $100 in much much better condition. I don’t remember what year the 318 got roller lifters but many 318s didn’t make the 100K mark I bought a couple of them for even less. But I was manly after the Bbody cars for b/rb 727 and wheels radiator and drive shafts.

Muscle cars were affordable back then too. Now it's hard to even find a decent AHB. Even crown vics. I bought one a couple years ago and paid a lot more then I used to see them at auction for.

brown and gray are common for an unmarked / investigation/ sargent+ units. I would assume that this was a unmarked shift commanders response car.

to the best of my knowledge you don't find many unmarked cars in Cali unless they're for detectives and gang units. Cali law says you can't use them for traffic enforcement. Unmarked CHP cars are rare and are mainly very civilian looking. can't remember who drives them. supervisors maybe? i recall a pic of a CHP unmarked 90s Caprice that had only a single steady red light under the grille and nothing else denoting it was a police car. there is one picture of what i believe is a CHP unmarked Diplomat. can't see much of it.

perhaps this car was passed down to another department? or was painted brown to cover up it's old graphics. i recall in California it is illegal to have a black car with white doors. so all retired patrols cars at least have their doors painted over.

it's interesting this car lost it's spotlights but retained it's push bar? perhaps this car got civilianized before resale and the guy just put another CHP push bar on it?

probably colors by location, so other chippers knew which station you were out of, the unmarked cruisers were solid, no door markings, just spots and dash lights front and back, back window had a red and a blue in opposite corners, some had the push bars in front. like the one shown.

It's been repainted you can see it on the door sticker and under the hood. It looks like it's peeling by the trunk seal and black underneath. It is strange tho that the paint number is over brown on the door so maybe it was done while they still had it.

i wonder if the spotlight holes were filled? was looking for signs of former spotlight holes on the inside. can't tell 100%. CHP cars always had two spotlights.
