if i did the 400 hp build on my 318 put a 2000 stall into the a999 change the gears to 3.55 with sure grip would the rear differential hold up ?

Maybe.........depends on the rear tire also (how well it hooks up).

8 1/4 yes. 7 1/4 not if you beat on it (either rear end differential is much stronger with sure grip)

it will hold up to your power level. i had 500 hp and beat on my 8-1/4 for a few years at 3800 lbs. i had a 4500 convertor with 3.55 gears
