Anybody got the engine out?

Need a quick measurement. Side to side between the frame rails dead center off the upper control arms. 29”and what?

Hmm.... Just might work.... I hate to ask again, but, does the distance between the frame rails vary slightly between the front and the back? Just the area adjacent to the upper control arms.

Measuring inline with the front bolt of the upper control arm its 29 1/4"
Measuring inline with the back bolt of the upper control arm its 29 3/8"

This measurement might be off on my Mirada ( I bought the Mirada thats in chmirada's avatar) it has a full cage and is back halfed. The car ran in the 8's and has a broken windshield from chassis flex upon landing hard after the wheelie bars broke. I can only imagine this thing is slightly tweaked. LOL

Got this Dakota crossmember on the way from a gent on the HAMB board:

"Hi Greg,

I have the dimensions you requested. As you probably know, the Ford F-100 frame rails taper, narrower toward the fron, therefore the side or boxing plates also taper as to their spacing.

Note: all dimensions below are outside to outside

Using your photo, dimension line "A", at the specific point, where the leading edge of the crossmember attaches to the side plate, the width is 29 9/16"

At the leading (front) edge of the boxing plate the width is 29 3/8"

At the rear edge of the center crossmember to side plate the width is 29 7/8"

At the back edge of the boxing plate the width is 30 1/8"

The overall length of the side plate, tip to tip at the top is 21 9/16"

So, there is 3/4" taper of the side plates over their length

Ray"

With the dimensions you gave me, I think I can squeaze it in with vaseline. Well, I've got $350 into it.... We'll see...

No coilovers. Rack and pinion though. This particular crossmember uses all stock Dakota parts. So coil springs, a-arms, spindles will be refurbished boneyard. Elpolako from Industrial Chassis (who built this model) says to wrap the Volare “frame” with heavy gauge steel, and it should be good to go. I’ll also have the frame tied for support. That’s the plan (idea) anyway.
