Hey y'all

Got a 1986 Plymouth Caravelle with a 318 5.2 V8, Its the longer cousin to the Diplomat. I want to delete this stupid "Electronic Fuel Control System" and switch to good old fashioned analog. Now I did try to delete it way back when and I found that I could get damn near but my distributor had to be plugged into the system or else it wouldn't fire so I had to keep it.... for now.

What exactly would I need to scrap all the junk and go to a beautiful clean carb with a beautiful clean fresh air intake. I do know I would need a new distributor but is that really it?

Step by step instructions would be appreciated and the name of the part and where to get it.

You need a new carb, vacuum distributor, ecu and wiring. This change is already well documented online, there should be step by step posts about it in the forum here also.
You can get all the parts from rock auto. Dealers used to have the wiring under mopar performance, don't know if they do anymore. Some places like summit racing also sell a kit that has everything but the carb. Look for small block electronic ignition conversion.

Basically what Mike said. Is it all still functioning? And are you doing this as a stepping stone to further upgrades?

The following document might be useful in doing the conversion the Chrysler electronic ignition:

Note that I wrote this from memory, some notes, and some manual checks 30 years after I did my last conversion. It is also generalized and covers the multiple versions of the systems used 1976 - 1989. If you use the procedure document and find some details that need to be adjusted or added, particularly with the 1980s Electronic Fuel Control System, let me know and I'll update it.

Later Mopar Performance Books covering ignition systems, such as the P5249010 Engines Manual, also have conversion instructions.
