SUCCESS!!
Removed the short connector hose going to the carb line. Cut a longer hose and installed it!
I finally just quit trying to work around everything and removed the alternator and brackets. With enough room to work, a cloudy-coolish day, and 4 1/2 hours of sleep last night, my brain fog lifted enough for me to get this tiny step completed!

With that success - I got the stihl chainsaw out and removed its carb. Shot everything with carb cleaner. Rerouted the air line to its proper location to get the kink out of it (Why in the heck do I pay someone else to do these things and then find that it wasn't done correctly???)
But it did not correct the 'no start problem'. I have spark. I have air. I have fuel that isn't filling the bowl; which tells me I do not have the carb clean. I didn't clean the jet so that's probably the issue.
Will try again tomorrow.

Went for a 2 mile walk with the dog and for some reason my cat decided to go with us. Walk awhile then sit and whine. Get up and walk some more then lay down and do cutie-pies in the dirt. Get up and walk some more and chase the dog. She is a strange cat.

Weeded the flower garden of the big stalks. Just 10 days til Valentine's Day and with no one to cut and bring me flowers anymore, I figured I needed to make it easier to do it myself.

Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, so I'm going to try siphoning out the gas tank on the Chrysler.

Sounds like you have a stuck needle or a plugged valve so you will probably need to pull the top of the carburetor and clean the float assembly with the needle and seat. Don’t be surprised if you find the float bowl full of oxidation.

I was going to pull it all apart today, but my 70 degree day doesn't look like it will even get to 60 and its high humidity, grey, and gloomy. Whats up with that?? Its freaking February, not December.

More inside chores it looks like.

The warm days promised have never materialized; however, if I wanted to work in 93% humidity with 28 mph wind gusts, I have plenty of that.

Saturday is now, once again, supposed to be 80 with low winds.

I smell stale gas in my future ....

Light rain all day. Topped out at 40.
Which is supposed to happen again the rest of the week til Friday. Then it will be muddy that day and rain again on Saturday.

So... no progress outside til this weekend --maybe.
Sigh.

A grand day today!!!
Looks like my side hustle helping fix data hygiene issues as a subcontractor for a california company (remotely) will be a total of 81 paid hours it looks like... which means plenty of money to pay for my root canal and my husband's headstone!

Got permission from the nearest neighbor's wife that I could go over this week with my dual axle trailer and have a 'how-to-grease- wheel-bearings-correctly' date with her husband at their house.

Found my manual transfer pump and with the cast off 4'ft copper tube I scored at the hardware store was finally able to get 4 gallons of gas out of the Fifth Avenue. This is more commonly known as "PROGRESS".

Let me get the picture resized and I'll upload it tonight. The reality of 'delaying laundry duties til this week' means I need to get some done before tomorrow a.m. so pics have to wait til tonight.

No, I was not standing on top of the car when I took this shot. Weird angle though.. must have had the phone upside down. I said a special thank you when I found this manual transfer pump buried among the other items in the garage.

These are some of the daffodils I planted for my mister instead of having a funeral. They are beautiful this year.

And of course, no day is complete unless you loan out your dual axle trailer and it gets returned with two flats. So I'm buying 2 more freaking tires. Which makes a total of 6 tires this year and its only March.

Wind has blown 40 mph with gusts up to the 50s and low 60s most of the day and they say its going to do this most of the week. What is up with the weather this year??

Tiny bit of progress yesterday.

Bought 9 gallons of Non-Ethanol gas so I can refill the gas tank on the Chrysler.

It will have to wait until I get back from picking up the 56 Belair for a couple of reasons:
1. Had a root canal today -- my face is numb and my brain is fried
2. Rain storm is moving in -- thunder thunder lightning
3. Got to get ready to leave tomorrow (if the storm is blown through) or Thursday morning at the latest.

So here is what I learned...

1. Don't drive a long trip (6 hours) the day after you have a root canal.
2. Too many chiefs still results in no one properly strapping the car down on the trailer.
3. If you plan a trip to pick up a car, it will rain the next 4 days once you get it home.

Here it is in the parking lot at the grocery store on my way home last night.

I've got a last minute, crisis computer help gig this afternoon and tonight which has to be ready by early morning so no outside joy til tomorrow (if the rain quits). I'm really struggling to stay inside instead of pour some of that non-ethanol gas in the 5th Avenue and try starting it.

Temptation is huge... but delayed gratification is the order of the day.

And yesterday I put 4 gallons of non-ethanol gas in the 5th Avenue. Then poured a generous amount in the carb.
Reconnected the battery. Sprayed the linkage with dry lubricant.
Tried starting it...
No Bueno ///

It did catch, but died after about 10 seconds.
After cranking several more times, it appeared the battery was low.

Which means tomorrow (Saturday), I'll recharge the battery, pour more gas in the carb and try again.

Battery is recharged using my fancy new battery charger.
Four gallons of non-ethanol in the tank.
Fuel filter replaced.
Poured non-ethanol gas into the carb -- about 8 ounces give or take.
Cranked the key and the engine came to life. Ran well, no shimmy, no weird sounds....
except for the absolute silence when the carb ran dry.

Well dang it.

So I think my next step is to pull the fuel line from the carb and put it into an empty jar.

Try cranking it again and see if I get fuel into the jar.

So my question is:
Does no fuel in the jar mean I have an air lock since the line was opened & drained when I replaced the fuel filter and emptied the tank
OR
does no fuel mean I need a new fuel pump?

I did replace the fuel pump about 4 years ago or so and haven't put very many miles on it -- less than 1,000.

You can try flushing the pump to prime it through the fuel line from the carb using the little straw on a can of flammable brake cleaner or, if you're really good, get a little gasoline down there.

If you don't get anything the pump either lost it's prime or it's toast. Those are my guesses

So pull the line from the carb and backfeed it fuel.
Fuel dribbles down to the fuel pump.

So what you are thinking (pardon my water well pump analogy) is that I'm not getting any head pressure because there is no suction and the suction has stopped because there is no fuel (liquid) to 'seal' the pulse from the fuel filter ergo - no prime.

When the rain quits and I finish taking care of my brother's dog this morning, I'll give it a whirl on testing the pump priming.

When I first start my cars after winter sleep I need to run the starter quite some time to get fuel back into the carb.

Usually like 10-20s (in multiple shots, not to shoot the starter, of course).

Put the line from the pump to a jar and turn starter. If nothing comes, either line clogged (tank to pump) or pump shot (as AMC Diplomat said as well).

You may be able to check if you have a clogged line by taking a compressed air blower gun, and putting it into the open fuel line and giving it a short burst. With somebody standing near the gas tank (gas cap off), they should be able to hear the air bubbling out. if the fuel line is clogged, or the fuel filter is plugged up, no air bubbling up. It may even clear the clog temporarily, but you will still have to address the issue at some point.

Heater element is out on the clothes dryer so although the rain has stopped I'm doing the human pretzel behind the clothes dryer to replace the heating element.

Will be back on the chrysler as soon as I get that fixed.

Dryer heating element was bad, but apparently so was the thermostat so now I'm waiting another 3 days until it gets delivered.

I tried blowing the lines. Air is fine. Won't stay started after the carb runs dry.
I tried priming the lines with gas. Won't stay started after the carb runs dry.

So, looks like its a new fuel filter.

Only I already blew the rest of my vehicle budget this month on a new battery and cutout switch for the tractor.

So happy mother's day to me, it looks like I'll be buying myself a fuel filter this coming weekend.

This is the longest, painful posting for something so simple. Sorry guys. I'm just a work in progress.

Have you tried running it without the filter? Like hook up the line out of the pump into a jar and let it pump with no filter in line? Because your pump could be bad
