Hi Guys,

I am in need of some help, I have taking my car for its road worthiness check in NZ so I can use it, they have failed it on the welds on the K member in my 1983 Cordoba, around the steering box, I remember my last USA car the welds were done pretty quick looking, any chance anyone could send me some high res photos of what a factory K member and what the welds look like please??

I want to show them that it is factory and thats how they were made.

Thanks
Bruce

Look at the hellraiser thread and the second chance at a blackbird thread in F body discussions, we have pictures of the K member welds in those threads

I have duty tomorrow, but can take pics of my installed K member on the welds when I come back from duty. The car is a rolling chassis right now. Would that help?

Hi. don't go to any trouble please, I am getting to the bottom of it, they think the welds are new and I have changed the engine mounts or something, problem is I spilt brake fluid down there and later on cleaned up the spill with hot water and washings up liquid, I think this has cleaned the welds up making them think they are new welds, I think I can now get to the bottom of it without a photo, will keep you posted.

The factory welds were quite sloppy in places. Sounds like you have some "nice" inspectors down there. Sorry for you!

This might be happening due to their not having seen many of these types of cars before. Inspectors just trying to do a good job, and running into things being done differently on North American cars.

Great pics any chance of a photo where the steering gear mounts and the engine mounts, they have queried the welds around there as well.

Thanks Bruce

Hope these help, they are original welds just cleaned up and repainted. If you need something more just let me know.
