this just started happening today, of note is the rear window was cracked overnight during a thunderstorm but, the interior isn't that wet. moisture in the system perhaps?

If its not s bulb causing it a bad socket in the tail light or wiring back there is the biggest culprit.

i do know moisture likes getting in our tail lights. should i wait for things to dry out and see what happens? and what would be the best fix? do i just need a new bulb?

looks like the left rear corner flasher is the culprit. replaced the bulb but it seems it's still not working. its the metal one on the left corner. but at least i got it to where the left signals flash just very slowly

Flashers are available at most auto part stores

so a bulb blowing shorts that fuse out? i had one blown back there and the corner bulb so corroded and won't work with a new light.
Sounds like you need new bulb sockets back there. The flasher controls the blinking speed. So if it's not blinking or blinking slow it's probably the flasher. I think NAPA sells the nice bulb sockets for like $5 each. Or you can gut a K car's taillight harness and adapt it to your M body

i found a socket in my parts stash so we're good there. i'll get to that later. new flasher did the trick and now i don't have to do hand signals at least

Sorry I cant ship something like this but if this would help you and you can find someone to pick it up its FREE. I let the heat of the sun soften the seal and pushed it out so there is no scuffs or chips on the edges. Dont F sedans fit rigs like yours?
