They still used 7¼” and 8¼” up until the end of production (in '89) – but most the later ones (last ones?), were almost all 8¼” – so I suspect the 7¼” assembly line might have quit early (decided to use the 7¼” for hand grenades to sell to the Army, instead?).

Both the 4-leaf and 5-leaf versions of the Iso-clamps, the top and bottom parts touch and support each other. I have never seen any Iso-clamp version not be the 4 or 5-leaf variant (even on B, C and R-bodies).

Personally, I would toss the Iso-clamp system and replace it with an older shock plate. That way how many leaves you have doesn’t matter. Also, the older shock plate is a stronger setup and gives a better ride.

I think the 7 leafs are overkill. That’s more than I have on my ¾ ton diesel pickup, after overload springs were added.
