Well, Friday I officially leave the pizza business after 10 years..only to join the snake pit of being a car salesman. I got a Facebook message a couple weeks ago asking if I wanted to sell Chrysler products..being that I've always wanted to do something with cars as a career..I took it. I've always heard salespeople referred to as snakes (among other names) but I'm hoping that I can shake that stereotype and give a perspective that most salespeople don't have..that of a car enthusiast.

At the very least, it's a bump in pay to help fund the car. Wish me luck, and if you're close..come find me when you're looking for a newer daily..haha

Always remember you don't make any money selling the car, you make the money in how many add on accessories you convince the customer to buy.

So which snake pit will you be at?

Jeff Wyler in Springfield. im sure youre somewhat familiar with it being so big and so close. something like the 36th largest dealership in the country, with 50 individual dealerships to choose from. I shouldnt have any problems finding a car to sell. But Im more concerned with helping people get what they want, not the extra cost of the car. Because an extra 5k on one sale, versus sacrificing that initial 5k for returning customers.

Not sure about the discounts and such, but I'll find out tomorrow.

Haha..that's what I'm afraid of. But, I can turn into the biggest jerk you've ever seen with the flip of a switch..so there may still be hope..haha

Just Google who you will be working for, that is my suggestion. The Internet knows him well.

I can not say it enough sell those accessories, and watch out for the F&I guys. Those fellows at dealerships always want to get their fingers into your commission.

I worked at a Dodge dealer in PA as a detailer, within a couple of months I was running the department. If the wife (then fiancee) hadn't been dead set about moving to MI I'd probably be a salesman there now.

Good luck BrotherGood! I hope you like your new job and the people you will be working with. Always stressful starting a new job, but it doesn't take long.

Well, yesterday was quite an eye opener. This is my first new job in 10 years..so needless to say it was quite overwhelming.

Today was better..actually felt productive..even if it was training on hyundai (CDJR and hyundai are the same department)

Now..just to get a dang filing cabinet..lol

A lot of C and D are in a Hyundai (and Kia) - but not as much J and R.

What gets me is the original owner gets 10/100 powertrain warranty on Hyundai (and Kia) but the people to purchase them new, trade them off at 50-60k miles or so, leaving the second owner with 5/60 powertrain warranty – which for the second owner, expired just after they bought the car.

A great car if you plan on owning it the full 10/100 warranty, but not so much for the second owner when traded off early.

Yeah..I'm still learning all that stuff..I'm just amazed at how far they've come from the garbage they were not too long ago. Only 20 something more tests and I'm certified. Only 3 in my department are certified in both hyundai and Chrysler..I'm going to try and add myself to that list.

Just a quick little update.

Finally sold my first new car last week. Ive been pumping out used cars every so often, but sold a new Pacifica Tuesday. Followed that up the next day with a new Grand Caravan, and Saturday finished the week off by selling a new Hyundai Sonata. I set high goals for myself, because I dont like using the excuse of how I've only been selling for 2 months now..but I was pretty pumped about it last week. Monday I went on a Jeep Compass Drive event..basically a 4 hour long event letting us test out the new Compass through the trailhawk course and on an autocross type setup comparing it to its competition. I think on Friday, I will be starting an internship with the top seller of the company..as he's looking for a new assistant. Regardless of whether or not I get the job, the experience gained is well worth it.

The good: Chrysler certified, Ram Expert, Jeep Expert and Chrysler salesperson of the month for August.

The bad: our pay plan is so bad..im looking at other options.

When you sell 11 cars and only make an additional 600 bucks..theres an issue. I'm thinking of trying to move to service. You don't need certification (which is kind of scary) but they pay for your schooling, and it'll let me wrench more than I do now.

Contrats!

Having that “Salesman of the Month” looks great on resumes – so take pictures (or whatever) to document it. Trying to find that data 10-20 years from now can be hard to do.

Service work is more dependable than sales.

Or compromise become a service writer, or parts department counter guy. Nothing in the stealership world is pretty. They stick it to you no matter what department you are in.:(

Well.. yesterday was my last day. On one hand, I'm moving to a position back in the town I live in that is Monday-Friday and pays better than my draw. On the other hand, I'm really torn up about leaving..uve never worked with such a great team, especially in the industry I love (cars)

That being said..im currently still pursuing a Chrysler training job. I sent in my resume a week and a half ago, but will be doing everything I can to talk directly to the person in charge. The position I'm applying for requires a degree, however my sales manager and current district trainer both are passing along that I've got the passion and knowledge to overcome a degree. We'll see what happens..in the meantime I've gotta get my car home with not enough vacuum to have the booster work effectively.
