Really, Two guys got their egos all spun up and would not back down long after the bidding had run past what they would have paid for if the car were sold in a fixed buy it now format. And at Mecum, they have free booze down near the front pits. If you go down there and you dont set yourself a limit as to what the maximum is you think you will pay for the car, including all the plus plus plus fees and taxes, and stick to it you are screwed. Two people who refuse to "lose to the other guy" is all it takes. And there is shill bidding. "I have a guy on the phone who just bid again!" Auction psychology is a world beyond normal sales. Crazy things happen. People often aren't bidding because they have to have the product that bad, they have a mental need to defeat another bidder in the heat of the moment no matter how much cash they waste.
