Tonight we said good bye to my father in law. We knew it was coming and were incredibly fortunate to have him for a year and a half after a diagnosis of Brain, Lung, and Kidney cancer.
He was always good to my wife and I, and he was an incredible grandfather to my son. I always thanked him and would tell him I appreciated him, but I don’t really think he understood how much it all meant to me.

I really hate that my son will grow up without his grandparents.

Appreciate it. Yesterday was his memorial service. It was bittersweet.
He was such a positive, family oriented guy, and most of his/our family is so caught up in old problems/dealings with one another that, he never really got to enjoy everyone together hanging out. Far as I know it’s all he really wanted.
The thing to finally bring us all into a room together was his passing, sadly it will likely be the last time we’re all together in the same room.

What it really is at the root of it though, is a lesson in PPE. My father in law was a licensed pest control tech who ran his own business for nearly two decades. Unfortunately he never really took PPE as seriously as he should have and the cancer is the unfortunate end result of it. So, if you or your loved ones work with know hazards materials, make sure they’re actually taking care of themselves; and also take care of yourself if you’re regularly exposed to them.
I’m actually kinda concerned for my mother in-law long term now, as she’s who washed his clothes (with her clothes) and touched his skin and slept on the same bed as him every night. Who knows how much exposure she’s had by proxy.

I don’t mean to bring anything down here, but it does help a bit to write it out.
