The Ranger 8.8 is narrow and has 28 spline axles, the popular 8.8 swap axle is the Explorer with 31 spline axles. Explorers came with 3.23 to 4.10 gears and limited slip differentials.
The Ranger 8.8 is a place to start, the 31 spline dif will fit and 31 spline axles can be purchased aftermarket.
The 8.8 is a strong axle assembly if configured correctly and has strong aftermarket support.

Does it have 4 or five wheel studs?
I hear Exploder swaps but not Ranger, I think for that reason.
It's Furd and I don't Furd, so I dunno how many lugs a Ranger uses.

I'm fortunate to have Quick Performance in Ames Ia. just down the road from me. I had a Explorer 8.8 narrowed with 9" ends new axles then added 1350 yoke and carbonfiber clutch kit for the LS and I'm all in for less than a grand.

I’m not a Ford person and hadn’t kept up with their stuff.

If you would please make note of these details before, after and if anything you would have done differently and post it here (somewhere), I would appreciate it (for others considering this change):

    - Year, Make and Model of the victim, err, donor vehicle.
    - Tube diameter
    - Drum to drum/disk to disk distance (surface where the wheel attaches to)
    - Backing plate to backing plate distance (or flange to flange, without backing plates on them)
    - How much was removed from (or added too) your propeller shaft length
    - What needed to be removed or installed for new differential install
    - How much you have into your change-over.

    Thank you,
    BudW

95-up Exploder rear ends are @ 11" disc brake. 59.5" WMS to WMS. (wheel mounting surface) Depending on market about $200 for a posi axle complete disc to disc with calipers. That's what I got a 3.73 posi for with calipers, E brakes and cables that will work with FMJ cars. Theyre very popular for jeep and S-10 swaps also. 'The Ranger Station' is a good site for 8.8 info and specs. Theres millions of them in yards so availability and finding a posi shouldn't be a problem. 3" axle tubes and spring under axle, 38.5 perches. Theyre 5 on 4.5 so stock wheels will bolt right up. They have a flange like the 64-65 A833.
