Yesterday the transmission had a fairly rough shift at about 25 mph when I went to drop a neighbor off, did it every time, after I dropped her off I drove to a nearby gas station to check fluid level: it was on the OK part but right at the lowest point, I also noticed some bubbles, I drove home and now it shifted smoothly the whole way, no problems, about an hour later when I drove back to pick her up, fine the whole way. Today took a short trip (a couple of streets) shifting hard again. What's going on?
A little history: transmission is original and never rebuilt (as far as I know) currently 235k miles, in 2018 I had the transmission serviced, they told me I needed a new torque converter and showed me the magnet it had a bunch of shredded metal, I quickly found out the shop was crooked and they often put the metal shreds on the magnet... so I never really thought about it again. Fast-forward about couple of years all of the sudden the transmission seems to be dead-neutral no matter what, fluid was low put it in nothing, gave up (there's posts about that somewhere here) all of the sudden it works (months later) and we discovered the crooked garage had finger tightened the pan bolts and covered it in gasket sealant, (and there was zero metal on the magnet) bought new fluid and a filter, cleaned the inside of the pan, she's back in the road, it has shifted rough around 55ish, on and off, but I rarely go anywhere that fast other then twice month, it's shifted great lately too, until this past trip
