    Can someone give me some advice or help? I have a 79 Volare 4dr. It was a slant six/auto. I swapped in a 68 318 and a 72 904 auto. I used the Schumacher motor mounts. Any way, I cannot for the life of me get the linkage set up from the transmission to the shifter. I've got a Haynes manual. Its lists several configurations but nothing for the 79. I bought a used linkage set up that looked like it would work, but it doesn't. Does anyone have photos of the correct linkage that I need? I didn't think this would be difficult, but it is.

    Thanks.

    Can you post a pic of what you have and where you are running into the problem? I assume a column shifter ?

    I will have to get back under it and take some pics. It seems like the geometry is off. I'm going to put a level on the engine. It possible the left side is too high.

    The linkage isn't real fussy about engine or driveline angles..... Bit there are several different styles and lengths and arms and Z-bars
    pics would really help
    EDIT;
    you may have just bought the wrong stuff.

    When I went from slant/904 to 360/904, I was able to keep all of the original linkage. I might have made a slight adjustment so the indicator needle lined up perfect with going into the gear locations, but I'm pretty sure the same linkage was a direct swap. '80 4-door, Schumacher mounts, '01 5.9, '73 904. Maybe things were rotated around and just need to be oriented the right way again?

    Charles may be right as to the shifter,

    But the KD mechanism will be different.

    These are all the different parts of linkages I have. First photo.

    The second photo is if the bracket that bolts to the frame rail, but it doesn’t bolt up flush to the rail like the one that was on it.

    Here's a photo of my setup if it helps any, I can snap some more if I need to but you can kinda tell how it's setup- mount on frame, straight rod to mount on tranny. Looks like your frame mount might need the tab bent in? Also from what I can tell I can't see a tranny side mount in your pictures, at least one like I have.

    Sorry for all the dirt and grim, haven't had much time this past winter to keep everything clean. I'm using a lokar kick-down, which I'd highly recommend if you're using an aftermarket intake/carb.

    So are you trying to use the linkage from the 6 or the 8 car?

    I tried my best to crawl under the car at my work parking lot. Then I had issues aiming my phone while pushing the button at same time (so a 2 handed job). My last phone, you can say “shoot”, or other key words, and it would take pictures one handed – but no, not this phone (sigh).

    This is factory un-altered linkage for A904/A998/A999 with a 318. There are some minor differences over the years but for most part it has stayed the same from ’76 to ’89 (FMJ’s).

    The A727 does have a different Z-bar transmission bracket, but rest should be the same for all column shifted automatic FMJ's.
