So I got a lead on an extra 318 that I'm really hoping to build up. Only problem is it's in PA, I'm in NY and I don't have a pickup.

Think I could fit it in the trunk?

    Alternatively. Got any suggestions?

Will it fit? In a 5th Ave? Probably not. But if it did...........
Will the springs take it? Do you really wanna find out,in the middle of nowhere when one side suddenly goes down?
And who's gonna clean the trunk out after you get home?
And will the trunk ever close again? or stop stinking?
    I say bungee-cord it on the roof. Yes I'm kidding,lol, aren't you?.

Friends who know me, know one thing: If you think I'm serious, I'm probably kidding, and vice versa.

I mean a motor weighs what, 600lbs? I've had way more than that in the back with passengers and cargo on old 4 leafs. The new 5 leafs should be fiiiiiine!:)

Yeah I'd rather not try it.

Uhaul will cost me about 6x the price of the motor. More than buying a (questionable) motor locally.

Shame you aren't down here in Texas.
My day today was supposed to be a trip hauling an empty gooseneck trailer to meridian (178 miles one way) and then return with a different trailer hauling a 1963 Willys pickup.

Problems arose and I'm sitting here at the computer with the trip delayed to tomorrow.
My truck and trailer are available, just a weeee bit too far south to help you. ;)

I rented a trailer on time from U-HAUL for 24 hours for less than $30, I put over 600 miles on it!

Thanks for the offer! If it was a bit closer I'd take you up on it.

Tow it , the trunk is a definite no most of the engine will be well behind the rear wheels and you might end up in a permanent wheely position if going up a steep gradient . Buy a hitch, slap it on, rent or borrow a trailer.

Would make a great photo op though. Who needs a Hellcat when you've got ballast?

If ur engine was closer to the track, we could've worked something out.

Spend a couple hours and break it down, buy a box of trash bags and spread the weight out, heads on each rear floor, crank on pass front floor, intake on back set, block in trunk as far forward as possible., ect.

Ive hauled two broken down motors cross country in a kia, you can do it.

    interesting approach to the problem.
I've never dismantled nor rebuilt an engine so that would be very intimidating for me.
But if you are going to take one out, futz with it, and put it in a different body I could
see how spreading the weight would work.

That was nice of you to help us see there are more creative ways to solve the problem.
Thanks for being on the forum!
