Just use the ATF+4, which is synthetic, and replaces ATF+3 and Dexron I, II, etc...You're over thinking it too much.

Erm.... Why not?I wouldn't use Dexron in an A998 or A999, but that's just me
The ATF+ series has different friction properties than Dexron. Teams of engineers sat down and figured out what these transmissions should use. Would you trust random people on the internet saying they know better than the engineers who designed the transmission? Dexron is probably fine in older A904 transmissions, but I wouldn't use it in late 80s cars as the A998/A999 have different internals and lockup torque converters. A lot of the Mopar world gets influenced by what people do on the A,B,C and E body cars, but there are subtle differences on the M bodiesErm.... Why not?

Ah, I see. Question, I had my 1984 Fifth Avenue transmission rebuilt a couple of years ago, it shifts smoothly and doesn't slip. I have only used reputable equivalent brand Dexron D3 in it. Would I benefit from partially replacing it with atf+4 when I next change the filter? The ATF+ series has different friction properties than Dexron. They're not compatible fluids, so noAh, I see. Question, I had my 1984 Fifth Avenue transmission rebuilt a couple of years ago, it shifts smoothly and doesn't slip. Ok, thanks. I won't do that then. They're not compatible fluids, so no
