Last Sunday I met a girlfriend to have a wine tasting date. Had 5 different flavors plus I tried one of hers. And crackers and cheese.

Lots of conversation ... health issues with her husband, my continued journey learning to be a single lady again. But it was really nice to just sit and gossip.

That sounds like a lot of fun. Chatting with friends and sampling some different wines. I went to our whiskey tasting group last night. The club bought 2 nice Irish whiskies. It's fun to be able to sample things you would never buy yourself. We had a nice group and lots of fun and conversation. We have a few gals that attend as well. Of course, others bring bottles to share. There's never a lack of good juice to try.

Lot different here in the Bible Belt of Texas.
Our county is 'damp', not 'wet' so wine and beer is fine but liquor means you drive to the next county.

Although I heard they opened a watering hole out north of the county seat. Thats a 50 mile round trip for me, ergo, the sampling at home...

Tonite was going to be a Manhattan but my brother's girlfriend gave me four bottles out of her fridge.

So tonight is Bailey's Birthday Cake.. Picture soon because I'm waiting for ice cubes to freeze as I don't like bailey's at room temp.

Interesting. I have heard of dry counties but never anything in between. Yes, 50 miles is a long trip for a toddy. Nothing wrong with Baileys.

I never knew any different growing up.
Its a city by city decision on beer and wine. (damp)
Its more of a county decision on liquor. (wet)

But regulations have been relaxed a bit in the past 20 years. So if a city is bound and determined to let in a liquor store, they can do it as long as they complete the tons of inspections and paperwork.

But as for beer, most of the ranchers and cowboys are beer drinkers early on so rarely does it get restricted from sale.

I just don't get the attraction to the taste.

I’ve never been a huge beer drinker but liquor has always been a road to the devils den.

I guess you could call me a binge drinker. Sometimes I think I may have a drinking problem but there are days in a row where I don't have anything stronger than a cup of coffee. I was on antibiotics for 2 weeks and had no problem not drinking any alcohol. But, (there's always a but) when I get together with friends for a tasting, I drink quite a bit. Not much from each bottle but we sample many bottles. It's worse in a large group like our whiskey tasting club because so many people bring a bottle to share. The club buys 2 and there may be a dozen other bottles from other members. Some I pass on and some I just have to sample.
We drink out of Glen Carin glasses and most pours are a half oz. or so. No need to pour a lot if you are going to sample many.

I don't know what I will get into tonight. Many times I will watch a whiskey tuber's video and they will be tasting something I have that I haven't been into for a while. SLB Drinks has a live tonight that might be fun. I might check that out.

Too funny.
I set up Weekly Libation to figure out if any of this alcohol is appealing.

Last night I set up a 'date' (via phone) with my 86 year old cousin living 400 miles away. Gossip and have a drink. She was having Bailey's and I was trying for a Manhattan (again).

But, alas, she forgot and had hers at 5 pm instead of 9 pm, and at 9 pm I realized I was still missing one ingredient for a Manhattan. lmao

So I had a glass of warm milk and went to bed to read a book.

Today or Monday, I'll get the vermouth and then I'll be ready to create a Manhattan. Just in time for my first Mother's Day without my mister.

I'm turning out to be such a non-lush lady.

Nothing wrong with being an occasional sipper. Manhattan? Do I have any Vermouth? Ah, yes I do. I do like an occasional cocktail but I'm not so comfortable making them I guess. I need more practice! LOL
