Tire brand

I'm getting ready to order tires for my Diplomat. At the present I plan on getting 4 - 235/60/15's. Does anyone see a problem with the size? I will be running Chrysler road wheels which I think are 15 X 7

What brand tire do you recommend? As far as I see there are BF Goodrich T/A's, Cooper Cobras and Mickey Thompson S/T's. I have the Cobras on my Fifth Avenue and haven't had a problem. I'm kind of leaning towards the Mickey Thompsons as you don't really see many of them on cars compared to the others. Let me know what you think.

I've got BFG T/A and they seem to be OK, other than the rear ones having the letters turn yellow/brown (and not from dirt). I wanted solid white letters and the choices are limited so, went with the ones I thought looked the best. Cooper makes good tires, no experience with the Cobra's (I didn't like the look of their lettering for some reason). Last M/T's I had were bias ply M50-15 waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the very early '80's so no idea if they make good tires or not.

235-60-15 fits great on all four corners. Like Aspen500 noted, some of the Radial TA tires have issues with the lettering turning yellow. My Dad's rear tires (275-60-15) are currently doing this while the fronts (235-60-15) are not.

Hook up like garbage in dry conditions, absolutely miserable in any wet weather; hook up ok in snow...so they have that going. My car isn’t that built and isn’t making that much power and it’s insanely disappointing how poor traction is with these tires.

Well I pulled the pin and ordered the Mickey Thompsons. Now I have 3 different brands and 3 different tire sizes on my M bodies. I have Cobra 225's on my 5th Cruiser. Nexium 215's on my 5th beater I did this because the Diplomat had a brand new set of 215 mud and snows that I appropriated for the beater. Now the the Diplomat will be wearing Mickey 235's.

I bought a set for my Ford project 275/60/15 for the rear and I'm on the fence whether I like them or not. I'm having a hard time coming up with proper front tire.

235-60-15 fits great on all four corners. Like Aspen500 noted, some of the Radial TA tires have issues with the lettering turning yellow. My Dad's rear tires (275-60-15) are currently doing this while the fronts (235-60-15) are not.

My rear BFG's are 255/60R-15 and turn yellow/brown and no amount of cleaning makes them white. Three times I've taken them off and used a 2" Roloc sanding disc on a die grinder to shave some rubber off. Then they're white again,,,,, for a while. Just like a hardwood floor, you can only sand so many times so there won't be a 4th time. The fronts are 225/60R-15 and the letters are white as the fresh fallen snow. All 4 were bought at the same time. Doesn't seem to have anything to do with sunlight or anything else. It happens with the car just sitting in the garage all winter.

It has something to do with the bonding of the white to the black, it bleeds into the white. It also matters where there manufacturered.

I went 245/60 tires on a 15x8 wheels for my rear thinking it’d be enough for a 318 with smog pistons and stock cam; not the first time I’ve been wrong, likely won’t be the last time either, lol

Maybe I need to just show less restraint and then be forced to buy new tires that hopefully have white letters that stay white. Too bad I'm too much of a cheapskate to do that.

I just went with 215 75 15 on the front 235 70 15 on the rear of my Roadrunner, and I use the Firestone destination le2 oh, great wet weather tires. I don't think they may come in your size though.......

However I need all new Wheels, and I'm gone a lot bigger only the rear, so I'm kind of stuck cuz I'm too cheap to get rid of those back tires the cost too much LOL

Id hope not, any performance car new or old that can hook with a commercially mileage rated should have the performance part removed. I still recall the first time I took me and my brothers bracket F on the street with the bigger Indy Profile street tires and pulled down into 2 and nailed it at about 55-60 and I found out how long it takes a F to slide to a stop in a field.

But even not hooking well I could still out run light to light 47 of about 50 in our group. A Stage 1 Buick and a glassed up 360 4 speed dart sport gave me fits.

Ive never had a pair of drag radials or soft bias tires last more the 500 miles on the street. More then not 100 miles.

Report back how you like them. The lettering looks good, Those may be on my short list when new tires are needed, which might be sooner than I had planned. Looking at tires, seems it's a very short list since white letter tires don't appear to be as common as they used to be. I don't care about wet or snow performance, just dry, since my car will melt if it gets wet.
