Finally the Aspen

hey is that car stock with AC?

It had A/C at one time. not since I've owned it. That hump in the firewall is actually a PITA.

Didn't know about the aluminum isolators, you have them made or buy from a distributor? Also, why not save the 3 inch since it was new and use half for a single exhaust? waste not...

I got the aluminum pucks three or four years ago from cudazappa at solid bushings. I think he's doesnt make them anymore. Nice pieces along with his ISO delete kit.


A few reasons for not running a single 3"

1. A'int cool looking....j/k
2. Even with the 360 engine going in it, dual 3" is IMO still too much.
3. The PO modded the drivers side of the gas tank to fit a 3" pipe. I know it will fit a 2.5" pipe.


I still have a both sides from where they hooked into the headman shorties to where I cut off the pipes just past the magna flows. Prior to the rear axle bend. I'll hook them up for the drive to the exhaust shop. Wanna see a pic......?

Close-up of the gas tank mod the PO did for general FYI. The exhaust axle bend currently is resting on the axle. So it was parallel to the gas tank cut out when it was hooked up.

With the exhaust hooked up with the old spring shackles. This was right after the SS spring install in '04, before I went to the offset rear shackles.

How it sat. Those ridiculous exhaust tips he put on. After I put in the MP761 cam, it did sound awesome. I believe the 3" exhausted made that sound. I kind of want that sound back, but the dual 3" may be too big even for the 360 going in it. Had a hell of a drone at cruise though.

Kinda "french-ed" in there, not well finessed but looks like he got what he wanted. Was thinkin 1/2 of that 3 inch and a custom cross over head pipe would flow like Moodys Goose... Dual 3 inch pipes might work at Daytona, with a really big carb to boot! ;-)
Should sound fairly close to what it were.

Unsure what you mean. What is Frenched and not well finessed? The first pic the bend is laying against the axle tube. That is because the exhaust was cut after the magna flows. The middle is how it actually sat and was not "frenched" nor does it have that appearance.

Frenching is the act of recessing or moulding a headlight, taillight, antenna or number plate into a car body to give a smoother look to the vehicle. The name originates from the end result looking like a French cuff of a shirt sleeve, which has a ridge at the end. Also known as tunnelling, it is a common modification used on leadsleds and customs since the 1930s. Just my slang for "squoze" in there.. Finnessed you usually do with a BIG hammer and a huge drift.... ;-) Your car is a beauty and deserves to be done right...

Mine are 2.5 to 2.25 tailpipes. Breaths fine, Still drones.

Drone, my cursed enemy. That 3" dual set up with the magnaflows had a hell of a drone.

Shame on the two magnaflows though. They are very usable, but they are 3" in/3" out. I dont know what kind of dynamics it would throw into the exhaust when I switch it to dual 2.5".

Scored an LD340 late last year off ebag for the Aspen. The ported performer at the upper left will now be used for the Mirada engine build, because of the a/c.

You know what's great about have two different cars with the same suspensions....flexibility.

The powder coated stock uppers will go on the Aspen now, as shown above, while the FF tubular uppers will be saved for the Mirada. The Sachs shocks I just put on the Mirada and like, a set will go on the aspen. Oh and the Aspens front suspension rebuild serves as my how to for the Mirada.

I tried to explain this to the other half and she didn't get it and just rolled her eyes. Seems pretty clear to me.
