I am seeing fewer and fewer Crown Vics dressed in tan and black. I saw a new 2011 Charger yesterday. It looked really good in FHP colors. I also saw an unmarked Ford Taurus cruiser. It looked mean too. Might be time for a new Robocop movie for the Taurus to star in.
What other states are running Chargers? Who is running the new Caprice? Got pics?

So far, around here, the Chargers are being used by sheriff's departments and local municipalities.

New York has taken kind of a hands off approach to the Charger replacing the Vic. They got burned making the transition too early from the M-body to the Caprice. The M's were relatively trouble free while the Caprice was nothing but trouble. The powers that be were waiting for real-world feed back. Well, that, and going through the current fleet of Vics. If you went to Warnock's website just before the end of the production run on the Vic, you'd see a pic of about 10-12 tractor trailers, all loaded with NYS Vics.

Doubt if you'll see the Tauruses as trooper cars in this state, too. I asked a trooper who used to come by the dealership what he thought about the AWD Charger. He said it wouldn't happen as the troopers are trained on RWD. To go AWD or FWD they would send every trooper back to school to learn the characteristics of handling with a different drive platform. I don't see Cuomo doing that. So the natural transition will be from the Vic to the RWD Charger.

I will make this side note. Have you heard one of the Hemi powered cop cars undergoing hard acceleration through a red light on an emergency call? Sounds like a big 4bbl opening up under the hood when the throttle body demands more air. :icon_thumright:

Our department just bought (at my urging) our first Charger. This should be the first of several... They just got it a few days ago and its being fitted with lights, etc right now.

Several Local depts have Chargers and the State Troopers here in NJ look like they are switching to Chargers also. They have had several Hemi powered Durangos for a few years. Haven't seen any chevy's or Taurus' here local or state.

Even our small town is in the process of switching from the Vics to the RWD Chargers- think they now have 3 or 4.

CL- they still get bucks for them unless they are the V-6 ones; keep your eyes on publicsurplus.com that is how many agencies get rid of their surplus cars, trucks, planes, furniture, et cetera

There are about ten or so on ebay right now, mostly 5.7's.

The department I work for has Chargers. A mix of 5.7 and sixes.

I heard one the other day it was stopped at the light got the call, hit the lights and chirped them in 1st 2nd and 3rd. All I saw was the sweet looking 2011 charger taillights getting farther and farther away lol

I agree that the Charger did not take off in New York, but which agency hated the Caprice?????? They loved and missed the Caprices till this day. Unfortunately they started detesting the M Bodies after 1985 because it was not keeping up with the horsepower increase the civilian vehicles were benefiting from. Except for really large departments which loved the abuse the M bodies could take, other departments started hating the M bodies because they felt they were slower from 0-60 and couldn't catch up to violators.

If you ever hear an Impala and Charger 5.7 running emergency and getting on it, that poor Impala sounds pathetic.

I have a number of photos from Canada. The Charger is made in Brampton ON and the Police force there uses primarily Chargers. Cars are not necessarily Hemi powered. It is the Peel Regional Force.

The Provincial Police force is like a State Police Force and the OPP, Ontario Provincial Police use all makes and have a number of Chargers in service....

My son works for the Ministry of Natural Resourses Law Enforcement, A Provincial Park Warden, and they have a couple of Chargers in the detachment he works out of. They also had an old decommissioned OPP Intrepid, but it is no longer in service.
