im just wondering what everyone is working on in the dead of winter.models , stalled project,or are people doing some serious wrenching. i just put header bolts in what a pain.

I am waiting on a damn electrician to hook the garage back up. I am pulling a wounded 5.7 Hemi out of a 2007 Charger. It needs a bore sleeved, after having a valve stick open.

Didn't drop one, it seized in the guide. The bad part is, with as long as this damn electrician is taking I'm going to end up pulling the short block with no heat, no lights, no air compressor, and no music.

The last gen 3 I saw apart dropped the head of the valve, busted the piston and ruffed up the head but not the cyilinder.
I have two different detached garages.
Neither is heated – thereby nothing is happening until spring time.
First thing up for spring is to rebuild an 8¼” differential and install a limited slip into it at same time (pending I don’t find an 8¾” housing, first).
Then install it under my ’86 5th Ave – so I can officially kick those 2.2 ratio gears, to the curb.
Then install better exhaust under the car, before the differential gets back into place.
What comes up next – I’m not sure yet – too many projects or automotive things to do, just not sure where to start at.

No heat in the garage and so cold the ballasts for the fluorescents are frozen.
Been working every Saturday, because it's just stupid cold anyways and getting a few in week hours.
I flat refuse 12 hr shifts now, but 9/10 are Ok with me, here and there.

When I was a kid I did a VW , I was a body man, the guy who's shop it was had a oil burner in the middle made from a tank with a drip pan in the center of the tank. The tank was steel and glow red after time, not great for bw but great for most everything else. It would be so hot the overhead door would be open a foot in two hours.

I 'had' a wood stove in the garage when I bought the place, but when the insurance companies found out, they got real p@ssy with an I.
When I had the roof shingled. I got rid of the pipe.
Traded the stove for Dip parts.
I do have a N/G connection in the garage, and should just buy a good old furnace.

There's one reason I didn't get one.
Another is lack of insulation.
Now too much stuff in the garage to do insulation.

I tend to spend a bunch of time out in the garage but lately it seems, not much gets done. It is heated (natural gas) and I leave the thermostat set on 70 steady. It's REALLY well insulated and since the only door that gets opened 99.9% of the time in the winter is the human door, not much heat loss. Figured it out once, in the coldest month (temps between -20 and +10) it took roughly $15 of gas to keep a constant 70 degrees. This is the big garage out back. The one car attached garage is heated but,,,,,,,,I rarely turn it on because it's electric (came with the house). The little disc on the electric meter almost grenades from the centrifugal force, lol. Plus, it's not insulated anywhere close to the other garage. Spring can't get here soon enough IMO.

i have a oil furnace. in the shop .jm afraid to see how much that would cost to run no insulation.its supposed to be 50 degress at the end of the week ill get something done.i also have the problem of working on more then one car at a time

Have no garage so have no heating bill for that, nothing requiring a garage would get done since its been unseasonably cold.
Two doctor appointments.
Another stay in the big city next week to support friend whose husband is going to have angioplasty.
Finished all the paperwork for the tax accounting for my dad, my dad's estate, and myself.. just waiting on end of year statements.
Got 3 loads of rock (18 wheeler dumps) delivered to the estate so I could run the backhoe to address the erosion issues on the main drive. I'm going to need all the other loads I bought to get this corrected.
Saturday I go to town to get the culverts I bought at the end of last year so I can fix the drainage issues on the main drive. Figured out that I was locking not unlocking the rear transaxle on the backhoe so the work should go much faster now. lol
Looking through craigslist for a 59 buick invicta, a 77 chrysler cordoba, or a 79 lebaron coupe and stumbled on that dang 87 chrysler fifth avenue.
Finished up the last of the paperwork to transfer holdings from the old, retiring financial guy to the new financial firm. Now its a waiting game with the transfer process.
My cousin living locally and just 6 years older than me just died of the flu on Friday night/Saturday morning. Helping his two sisters with that process.
Started studying on technical details to submit electronic submissions to the FDA for clinical trials and new drug development. My sabbatical ends this year, gotta get back on the work bandwagon.
Been watching a local auction site which has tools I'm going to bid on to bolster up what I have and whats down at the estate. Last guy that worked for my dad before he died appears to have helped himself to whatever he wanted.
And I have another three hours of handwork left before I have the coffee cup cozies finished for the Post Master at the local office - her husband has stage 4 brain cancer and they are stopping chemo this week.
Of course, Darth-car's radio is in my work area and I need to really put some mental effort into how I'm going to get that last part fixed. I need a way to stop the internal plastic line from pulling the end out and running out too far or if you turn it off, it has no tension to pull the telescoping part back down. I should be smart enough to figure a solution but so far, I have 3 failures and am still looking for a solution.
It was 8 degrees last night (WTF) and on Saturday we will be nearly 70. The weekend is looking good to get some things finished.
Maybe I'll just go bake some cookies. Reading over this list is making me weary.
