78-79 Dodge Aspen Plymouth Volare Grilles..NOS New..Nice Used..Mopar

Not my stuff.

I think I know who this is. I think his name was Gordie, he had a huge collection of F bodies under car covers. I have his name and number in my other phone. I bought a 1978 4 bbl 318 wagon from him. A really nice guy. He delivered the wagon to me in Utah. I wish I had 1200.00 laying around. I think he was on this site years ago or the old A & V site.

That's about what an NOS '78-'79 Aspen grille goes for, IF you can find one. Mine is NOS but bought it probably 15 years ago from Marty for $400 but as lowbudget said, they are brittle. I'm afraid I'll hit a fly on the freeway and take a big chunk out of it. It's already got a good amount of epoxy holding it together.

I believe somebody looked into reproducing them a few years ago but the economics prevent it. It'd be at least $50,000 just to tool up AFTER the design work and engineering to make the actual tooling, not to mention actually making them, the plating and other things. It would be a minimum of $100K before the first one was ever molded. With the potential market, they'd have to charge $2,500 each just to hope to break even, much less turn a profit. There was (is) those Mexican repop grille's but with the pictures I saw, a car would look better with a broken grille, or none at all. They were HORRIBLE.

I've been holding off installing my NOS grille. My car goes into the body shop to get some paint work done. I'll wait until I get it back before putting on all the NOS goodies.

I'm building a tube grill from 3/8 steel tubing and having it powder coated black. Hopefully it turns out well. I know it will be cheaper than the plastic version

I found those Mexican grilles and Eric got one across the border.
I had high hopes and seeing dollar signs, but they were bad.
