Anyone use McBay Performance leafspring shackles? I just ordered a set. Adjustable ride height from 1”- 4” should give a nice aggressive street look...and knock out my wheel rub
Adjustable 1"- 4" Lift Rear Shackle Kit for 1960's thru 1970's B-Body, C-Body & M-Body Mopar's

Wow, overpriced IMO. I don`t like using them as they can take a marginal spring and flatten it out. They do look better quality then the MR gasket ones for sure. I would have just used air shocks with just enough air to keep from rubbing. Hopefully they will work out for you.

The problem is that using a longer shackle to adjust ride height isn't great. When you make the shackle longer it makes the arc of it's swing slower, which means the suspension reacts more slowly, which means worse ride and handling.

If you haven't got the dough for new leafs I understand, but in my opinion it's better to save up for that than use a less than ideal part.

Air shocks might of been a more stealthy fix and might of kept you from getting ridiculed so much.

Now if its a low rider you drive to the chihuahua races, shackle on.

You know, you’re on to something. As much as I appreciate insight, ridicule and obvious backhanded remarks really aren’t appreciated. Oh well, so goes the internet.

Not sure what you were asking when posting this? I assume you were asking for opinions???? From years of making mods to my F bodies I generally try to give out advice to save people money by not making the same mistakes I made. Shackles like that ( and yes I tried them when I was younger) were a poor choice. They change the ride and affect handling also. Not trying offend anyone. Only trying to give solid advice.

My experience is you will be happier with ride quality and overall handling with stock height shackles.

If car is sitting low, IMO, the best answer is to either re-arch the leaf springs or new leaf springs OR get air shocks.
I’m not a fan of air shocks, but they do get the job done. Just don’t go crazy with the air pressure.

I love the before and after. They couldn't even use the same size tires for a direct comparison.

Dude, shackles and air shocks are band-aids. They're horrible. The shackles for reasons already explained and the shocks because the ride will go into the toilet and the cross beam in the car was never designed to accommodate the stress of lifting the ass of the car up.

Dad had air shocks on his coupe for two seasons...

If you want to correctly raise the back of the car then add a leaf to the pack and see what it gets you.

I had one girlfriend back in the seventies that I would air up the shocks for, if you put about 90lbs in them the back of the car had a little bounce to it. You figure it out. :)

I had air shocks on many cars for many years and never had any problems with rough ride or breakage or handling. I never used them for carrying heavy loads or jacking the car up like a 70`s prostock car. I only used them for tire rub/ clearance issues or giving the car a slight rake. I wouldn`t use them in place of a failed /worn suspension part.

The brace the upper rear shocks bolt to, I’ve seen a few break away from chassis from people using air shocks. Not a common thing, but I’ve seen it happen to Chrysler cars.

If you keep the upper shock bolts tight and weld in two braces from the top of the shock cross mount to the bottom of the floor pan an oem one can take alot of abuse.

Its also easy just to cut out the oem one and fab one and weld it in if ya got one beat to crap already. Either round tube with tabs welded on (all the chassis companies sell the tabs or make them) or even 2x2 square stock with tabs. Just remember either round or square weld a small plate on the ends so it jams into position between the frame rails the just weld the plates on.

Just as an opinion, I don't like the "jacked up in the back" look at all. Aside from the handling and ride compromises, I just don't think it does anything for the overall appearance of the car. I didn't like it way back when (late 1960s/early 1970s), and I don't like it now. In this city, it will also get you pulled over for a bumper height check. I realize that people are going for the "drag racer" look, but these are street cars, not drag racers.

It really don`t much matter to me what people do to their car. Everyone`s taste is different. My suggestions were more geared towards safety.

LMFAO Iforgot about this post.
I posted this right after eating 5grams of psilocybine mushrooms and my response was when i was coming down and way to introspective and insecure to be reading and typing on a computer. Shackles never made it onto the car but, a nice set of HD leaf springs from General Spring KC did. Thanks to everyone for the replies.
