This is the only pic I've ever found of the F body assembly lines. Does anyone else have more pics? There has to be some out there.

It does seem to be the only one. I looked around some and that photo is the only one I found. Odd.................

I've tried looking up pictures of the Hamtramck assembly plant, and there are a lot of pictures of the plant, and cars being assembled there, but not Volare's or Aspen's. Also many pictures from after it was closed down by Chrysler.

Good stories and pictures of the plant at www.allpar.com and www.dodgemotorcar.com

This picture is from a ’76-79 F or M body, with A/C.

The red box is the air transfer box (from blower motor to evaporator/heater box) and white stair-stepped line is the inner fender flange.

I’m surprised to see several items in this picture:
untitled.png

- One is the vehicle trim and emblems are already installed. I thought those went on last.
- I thought the bumpers were installed second last (or there abouts).
- What happened to the tail pipe (the one over rear differential)? I don’t see it . . .
- I don’t see a lick of paint on that differential. The Left brake backing plate might be painted – kinda hard to tell in this picture.
- What is the "lift" holding onto in the rear? it looks like might be the wheel well trim, maybe . . .

This is the first time seeing an F, M or J car on assembly line – so no way to know anything before-hand. I had seen a lot of pictures of other body’s being built as well as a couple GM car lines (in person) – so what I “think” apparently doesn’t apply here.

I was under assumption that brake lines and fuel lines were laid on the same table that is currently supporting the powertrain (above picture). I would guess, in this case, those lines were attached before this picture.

It would be nice to see this same photo but from a front angle.

Great pictures!

Terrific!!! These are great! I've never seen any of them! Thanks so much - love to see more if you have them or know where to find them. :)

That's all I've got. Most of them I found on Flickr by doing really time consuming searches. Next best thing is the 1979 Lebaron Crash test videos. Spoiler: It's not good at 35mph.

Vince and Larry sure knew how to wreck 'em !!

I wonder if Phoenix Graphix sells that stripe kit ........

and man, they wrecked the grille ;(

Looking things over on the rotisserie, the muffler belt did it's job!
The muffler is still there, unharmed!

Glad I didn't waste money on bumper guards, too.

I don't get the rotisserie thing but watching the bottom video it looks like the rear axle gets bent from the driveshaft pushing it back.

It appears the cars did pretty good in the test. The front end collapsed, absorbing the energy, and the passenger compartment is still intact, exactly the way it's supposed to work.

Except for the part where the driver's face smashes into the steering wheel. And the doors on the coupe being jammed shut. And in another video where the fuel lines burst. And... yeah.

Do notice how the dead backs follow the driver to the steering wheel?

Spare parts needed. Any crash test cars for sell??

Impressive to see. Lucky that engine is not coming in passenger compartment.
