I think it's time we got a little respect.
I sent this to the editor of Mopar Action.
We'll see if I get a response...

Hello Mr. Gromer,
My name is Ed and I'm from Toronto, Canada....the great white north. I've been a steady reader of your magazine for a good five years now. I love the articles....especially the tech.
However.....I have to say I am getting a little fatigued at seeing nothing but the usual A, B and E body over the top restoration cars that have been a mainstay in your magazine ever since I've been reading it. As a guy who is into ALL the classic Mopars I was thinking to myself maybe it's time to expand a little.

Believe it or not there are OTHER letter cars that have a pretty decent following.
I myself daily drive an 87 Fifth Avenue and also own a 1978 Plymouth Caravelle and a 1980 Plymouth Volare. I'm also a moderator on the For F,M,J Bodies Only forum. By last count we have well over 1000 members. This has led me to my suggestion(s).

My first suggestion is why not throw guys like us a bone once on a while? Hey...I'll drool over a full blown B body resto with a blown out hemi like anyone else....but there's a lot of us Mopar lunatics who live in the real Mopar world. If I won the lottery then sure....maybe I'd build a monster Cuda or something but I haven't won yet....so I slowly but surely work on the lowly F and M's that I own. And you know what? I'm more than happy doing this. I personally think that Ma Mopar made some beautiful cars during that era.....for me Mopar didn't stop at 1972.

On our forum there are beautiful examples of this. Volare, Aspen, Mirada, Cordoba...my Caravelle is a rare one of kind (in my opinion) gorgeous M body. 78 LeBaron's look pretty damn nice too. The Volare Road Runner and Aspen R/T's are undeniably gaining in popularity to Mopar guys getting in on the ground floor who don't have $10,000 to fork out on a junked rolling shell B body. The hobby IS changing.

My other suggestion is something like "Still in service" or "Doing their duty" or something like that.....sort of like your reader's rides section but devoted to the die hard Mopars that are still out there doing their daily duties....like my Fifth Avenue which has performed flawlessly day after day, spring, summer, fall and winter with it's bone stock lean burn saddled 318.....and my Volare with the indestructible Super Six.....easily one of the greatest engines Ma has ever built. Just a little homage to the real world Mopars that are still out there doing their job.

For the record....I've always enjoyed your magazine....but maybe it's time to expand a little. I for one am one of the biggest Mopar junkies around....ask my friends. But even I am getting tired of seeing $100,000 restos on the same cars over and over.

It's called Mopar Action....how bout a little action for the rest of us guys?

Thank you for reading my ramblings Sir.
I leave it with you.

Regards,

Nice job Capt.,I hope it works

Thanks!
Already got a response....

Hi Ed-
If we find the right car with a good interesting story behind it, no problem. In the meantime we can put some of those cars in Readers. Want to send a few pix with a writeup?

Cliff

So....what does this mean?
It means we should all start sending in pics of our rides or builds.....let's turn things around.

If you've got an interesting build.....send it to the editor.
Wanna see your car in the readers rides section?
Send pics and a short story.
I did it and got my Caravelle in there.

This is gonna take more than a one man push to turn things our way.

Have at 'er lads....

I invited Mr. Gromer to check out all of Joey's sites ages ago for inspiration on homebuilts no matter the letter designation.

That's excellent....
Then he just got another bug in his ear.
It's gotta be getting tiresome running the same parade of cars every month.

I wish the blackbird was finished enough to put it in the mag. it still needs the flairs and window louvers, and a paint job. I think it would really qualify. That would be the coolest thing in the world.

You should send it as she sits now and maybe add a link to your build thread. Even the way she sits now....that's one of the most impressive brought back from the grave restos I've ever seen.

Well what I've gathered from this is that these guys are always on the prowl for something new they can use.

I'd take this as an open invite.
Send your builds and who knows....they might do a feature on it. Or just send pics of your ride and it might wind up in the readers ride section.

We're always complaining that our cars don't get any respect.
It's up to us to help bring them to the forefront.

I think you state it well. Hope it opens their minds.

Thanks!
He seemed receptive to the idea.
Realistically how many times can you run the same cars?
You get the odd weirdo but for the most part it's the usual over the top Runner,Cuda, Challenger or Charger resto.
Gets old....

They want to run stories on our cars because they get bored themselves, but they want submissions with pics and data. I have talked to Randy (MoparMuscle) and Richard Ehrenburg (Mopar Action) but they need submissions, and then you have to wait 6 months to 18 months for them to slide it into their magazine.

Pretty cars & rare cars get the pics and long write ups, our cars might get 1/4 page and a blurb.

If you itemized what you spent, what's in your car, chassis or engine dyno numbers, spun a story with some dramatic meat into it, they would publish it but the wait would kill you and start to make you bitter for awhile.

like on FABO, if Rumblefish were to write up the stories he has told about his late 70's million mile 360, Magnum car, they would print it just to point out how well our cars have been made.

Rich needs to write up a story about his car or maybe I could help him. Maybe my car eventually, but I am out of funds right now.

If you look at the dynamic paint jobs and stories on all of the craigslist F bodies, those stories are out there.

Rich quite possibly has already contacted Mr Gromer who I was emailing with today. He was interested in Rich's build.

If you could help him out with the teleplay that would be outstanding.
