Cool. I've never seen a Chrysler stand alone CB unit before. I have one or two old units like Midland and Realistic (Radio Shack) laying around. Probably should put one in my F150 just for fun.

Motivation really isn't the problem. Finding time to spend on OY and the dozens of other projects I have is the problem. I have too much going on for the past several years with working more than full time, and caring for aging relatives. I thought that once I finally finished and sold the "flip house" I would have all sorts of extra time, but it hasn't worked out that way. I often get advice to "make the time" for these things, but I have yet to find a working "time maker", and I haven't been able to buy any time in stores on online. o_O Seriously, it is a problem that I am having trouble figuring out.

I think it's a cool piece and never saw another yet.

I just found my CB vest with 1977 badges.

Lol. It's been a LONG time since I used CB. As I said, the original unit in OY doesn't seem to transmit. I was able to pick up some truckers over in NJ and down in Delaware a while ago, but they didn't respond to me when I tried to break in. I haven't tried it much since. I don't like to use the power antenna until I can find out how to service it. I don't want to risk breaking it as it is the special CB/radio power antenna and I don't know where I would ever find another one. It already doesn't retract fully into the fender, leaving about an inch or two above the fender when it retracts. So, for now, I don't use it.

I used the above pic to show how the antenna doesn't fully retract. I wanted to try to circle it or put an arrow pointing towards it, but I don't know how. I see others are able to do that. How?

The NOS mopar power antennas I have seen appear to be retracted completely when new. Whether once it get power does it or does it not retract all the way I dunno.

    Thanks 7T8 Custom. PM sent.

I really don't know. Seems kind of odd that they would design them to stick up a few inches though. It's always been that way on OY since I bought it, but then I've only used it maybe ten times or less.

Old time Chrysler tech told me years ago how to properly lubricate the power antennas. Get a jar of Vaseline petroleum jelly. Extend the antenna. With a rag spread the petroleum jelly evenly up, and down the antenna mast on all sides. Then retract the antenna. That gets a bit messy as the excess jelly comes to the top of the retracted antenna, so you clean it off. Raise, and lower the antenna several times in succession and repeat cleaning off the excess jelly. Then raise the antenna, and give the entire mast a single wipe to remove some additional excess jelly, but do not go to town, and rub to vigorously, you want a mild light film of jelly to remain. At this point you are done, and should have a happy antenna.

    Repeat process once per year.

Thanks Darth-Car! I will try that and see if it retracts all the way down. OY is tucked safely in the garage hibernating now, so it will have to wait until the weather warms up. It is snowing again today and supposed to turn to freezing rain this afternoon, so I took off work and am (trying) to clean up paperwork and other indoor stuff today. It's really coming down out there. I got a call last night from Marty Mopar, and he is shipping out my new toys on Friday! Woo Hoo!
