Climbed the water tower at work and snapped a picture. Nice sunny 40 degree afternoon.

Nope, just nope! Top rung on a 6 foot step ladder is high enough for me

The time I saw a guy changing the light bulb on top of the 450ft rsdio tower over on top of Rib Mt. when I was up there, Igot the heebie jeebies just looking. At the base of the tower you're already 1,000 feet higher than the surrounding terrain, then add another 450,,,,no thank you very much!

Nice view from the water tower though :)

Chicago, right?

Yup, Chicago. The white tower on the left is blocking the, John Hancock tower. It’d be a near perfect photo of the skyline otherwise.
That was from the work platform of the water tower, comparable to being in the roof of a 7 story building. If I climb to the top of the tower, it would be like standing on the roof of a 8.5 - 9 story building; wonder if I climb on top of the tower if I could get that perfect picture…with my luck, I’d fall through the top of the tower and end up taking a swim.

My estate planner attorney is on the 8th floor of s building downtown. Because of the terrain, the back of building you're the equivelent of about 12 stories up. Nice view of the white water kayak course, a park, the bridges across the river and over to the near west side, etc. However, even from behind the glass, I still get vertigo if I look down.

No idea why but I've been terrified of heights long as I can remember. Most uneasy I ever felt was looking out of the World Trade Center, before the losers flew planes into them, on (IIRC) the 98th floor. Made it worse because I could sense the building slowly swaying from the wind. YIKES!

Thought I recognized the Sears Tower, or whatever it's called now.

Finishing off the weekend with a quick alignment. So long over due. Car feels real nice going through the neighborhood, will see how it feels on the expressway heading to work at 3:30am.

Cheers and good night.

Yesterday afternoon, after 2 hours quality time with the snowblower. Then, what it looks like again this morning. Sigh........

Swapping out shaving cylinders at work. We go through blades about every 1.5-2 months depending on how much we’re running them. Send the whole cylinder out, new blades get laid in and we do it all over again.

Holy cow(pun intended), must be for shaving giants, lol!

Are they for taking hair/fur off the hides, or making them all the same thickness, or?

The tannery I toured a few years ago used some horrible smelling stuff that basically disolved the fur. You must get used to the smell after awhile, or not.

Making the hides uniform thickness.
We also have, splitting machines that are capable of (splitting) removing paper thin layers/sheets of leather from the hides. They’re what we use to split the top grain off the hides to create, suede.
Think, horizontal band saw where the cutting is done up top of the saw and the straight blade (no serrations) is positioned to run horizontal across the cutting plane instead of vertical and with the edge pointed at your finger tips as, you carefully feed a full hide into it and your work partner slowly pulls the split sheet out from the back side.
I’m honestly surprised OSHA still lets us use them with how many injuries we’ve had on them.

Reminds me of when Mike Rowe did a dirty job at a tannery in upstate NY. He asked one the guys if there was any machine there that.couldn't potentially kill, or seriously maim you. The guy answered "no".

Oh yea, for sure.
I’ve joked more than once that with all the acid in the building and on sight water treatment plant that feeds into the, Chicago river, I’m nearly certain a body or two has been disposed of through there over 118 years of operation.
