Making lemonade out of lemons tonight.
As I continue to donate and clear out more of my husband's the unfinished projects, clothing, books, etc since his death, I realized that since his congestive heart failure worsened over the past 5 years we stopped drinking anything with alcohol since it interfered with his medications.

First Friday night of the year, I opened our Christmas wine from Fredericksburg.
Hope you all had a good week. I did make a tiny bit of progress on projects this week nearly every day.

If I knew anything about wine, I'd do an great job of describing this to you; however, I'll leave it with fruity, sweet-ish, and absolutely lovely color. A really beautiful deep red which looks kinda pinkish when the light hits it. Would make a lovely sweater color.

Yes, I know I should be all over the consumption part; however, the drinking part was never as interesting to me as the bottle, color and label part.

Back in 2002 I was diagnosed with heart failure, I went into the hospital with an EF of 14 percent and not a great prognosis. The first heart Dr said they usually told patients with heart failure they had about five years but that I needed to get my affairs in order. Luckily he wasn’t the heart Dr I ended up with but the guy that got me from twenty to fifty five percent EF recommended a glass of red wine every night. There is supposed to be something in the red wine that helps the heart. I think it is similar to what coffee does, the good in coffee out way’s the bad. But the funny part about this is that the doctor who recommended wine every night was fired for drinking on the job I guess he was just taking extra precautions with his heart.

So glad you didn't believe the stats.
And wonderful your EF went back to 55.
I'll have another 1/2 glass of wine to celebrate your 22 year continuing journey..

The ER Dr 22 years ago is my primary heart doctor now I love reminding him that he said I would be a dead man seventeen years ago. He says so I was wrong once. lol

Apparently, I had a virus in my heart all those years ago my heart is at 65% now

Jan 10, 2025 ... Friday night

Last year, we bought a fancy setup of Bailey's with the two mugs. One labeled Yours. One labeled Mine.

I filled mine about half full tonight. His would have had port in his... he wasn't a fan of Bailey's.

I left his empty since we had bad weather move in, 1/4 inch ice covered with 7 inches of snow, with a layer of rain that froze on the top... which is a long way of saying the water line froze so I have no way to clean dishes til later this weekend.

After tonight, it looks like I'll have to post a 'what I have a partial bottle of' so you folks can suggest some mixed drink I should try. I have 50 more Friday nights this year.... just sayin.

That IS bad weather...

Sitting on Sanibel Island right now with mid-high 60s, outside, enjoying a nice white wine.
Yes, vacation. Germany has bad weather as well and every time a flake of snow's showing up everything ends up in chaos.
That was definitely different back in the day...

Tonight is simple.

If you squeeze enough lime juice into a Mexican beer, close your eyes and swallow -- its almost as good as a margarita..
But I'd rather just have my brats soak up the beer directly.

Beer was my husband's choice of drink although he was partial to Sappora beer from Japan.. his military service had him stationed there for a couple of years.
