winter blues

Just have to get a lot done before my life gets sucked back into the 9 to 5 grind.
does make me realize why I'm tired this month. haha
 
My neighbor had the idea of a few 300 watt incandescent bulbs in the garage, so that's what I did. Plus I have an electric oil filled heater. The lollypop thermometer read 37°F a week and a half ago in the garage without the lights or heater. Once I got it goingI was able to shut the heater off a few days later. The temp is just under 60° F. The garage is attached so if I keep it warm, it doesn't put cold air into my house like an icecube in a room temp drink. Just sucks with very little room, so the work bench is stacked with grille repair jobs

tell me more about your 'grille' jobs.
I have one languishing in the storage building. Bought it and it was in great shape but it arrived here in 2 pieces. Never did get UPS to straighten out the issue or cough up any money for repairs.

Maybe I should ask on a different thread and not hijack this one.

Another thing that might need another thread, is garage lighting. I’ve read a lot of wood working books and a common bit of advice is older a person gets, the more light is needed in your work space.

I don’t remember the ages but something like a person 50 needs twice the light as a person of 30. Again, a person of 70 needs twice the light as a person of 50. Note the ages light be a bit off – for I’m going by memory.

Now that I’m over 50, I have noticed my garages is rather “dim”.


Unrelated and another off-topic item. I have a pair of Harbor Freight double-500w Halogen work lamps – that warms my garage fairly well (when it’s not in the single digits or lower, that is).

Just don’t work to close to the lamps or you will get burnt.

Switch out lights to incandescent for winter time heat source.

As for working area/ lighting / space.

I'm realizing when gluing or plastic welding, make dry fit attempts. I make small slots with the dremel so it can tonge n groove.

build the area up and support bracing: like a leg splint. Need to marry to halves? You need to build a joint brace (In my opinion). Think of a roof truss network to support the inversion of forces

We are having cold weather still and today it is cloudy and very windy.

I wussed out.
Called up the feed store and asked them to deliver the culverts.
Met the driver at the gate, showed him where to put them and they used one of those fancy trucks with the sliding, lift beds.
Took about 10 minutes and they were done!

Checked the house for water leaks (none -- yea).. came home to wait out the cold for tomorrow. Supposed to be 60 Sat and 70 on Sunday. I'm thinking today is inside day, the weekend-OUTSIDE!
 
Bud the materials were good but it's 40+years later. Well past the life expectancy of a Fbody.
 
The F-body grills were brittle, prong to breakage and hard to get hands on, back in the late ‘70’s.
I would guess the material is no more brittle now, than it was way back then.

I started my son's 3.9 drivetrain swap in his Mirada CMX. I got as far as pulling apart the donor truck and getting rid of the hull. Then it got too cold to heat the uninsulated garage. Hopefully this weekend will be a little better.
 
All I know is I have to put more garage time in b/c it is depressing me that the weather is so cold. Plus my wife is about to kill me.............. I'm getting on her nerves that bad.
 
At one time the grills were made aftermarket (1985), but I not seen them in a catalog for years.
 
good how to grill repair.i finally got around to putting my heater core in my 99 ram.that dash is brittle after 19 years took me 4 hours.
 
I hadn't heard Modoba run for 3 months. Went out and cranked her up for about 20 minutes. "The hills are alive.......with the sound of Mopar"... On another note, I picked up a vortech v-2 supercharger and I'm replacing the bearings and seals. Who knows where it will end up? He he
