    Hi Guys,

I picked up some vintage alloy wheels on the local auction site, pretty hard to find wheels with old school off set here, what do you think wires or alloys?

The wheels are 17 x 8 with 1" off set or 5" back space, tires will be 235 x 55 x17 or 215 x 60 x 17 to keep rolling diameter right for speedo. I am tending towards the alloys myself

    Anyone know widest tire a j can fit, current tire's on those rims 235, seems heaps of room, my choice are 215 60 17 or 235 55 17 of 255 50 17

Huh. I like them both, but they each give the car a very different vibe. The wires are more classy, the alloys more sporty. Both fit the car well though. I probably lean more towards the alloys, but I wouldn't get rid of the wires either. I have a similar dilemma with OY. I have the original black steels with poverty caps, a nice set of Rally's and a nice set of Road Wheels. I have the Road Wheels on it now, but will probably change them out from time to time. Not sure I could say which are my favorites because I like them all.

    Speed-O correction gears are cheap.
I'm lazy so the 5-spokes are easier to keep clean.

Maybe you could use an small spacer (1/2"). But what is the width of the rims? I have heard that the width of the tyres can't be larger than 1.1/5" the size of the rim.

If I were you, I should leave the original rims on the car. Or you want to make more torque out of the engine. But I like the wire type rims more.

    What does that mean?

its a tricky one, I assumed 1 - 1.5" over stock 5.5" rim? But assumption is the mother of all F up's! So maybe my bad, I await the definition.

Wheel Width and Offset (ET) Explained ยป Oponeo.co.uk

The max. advised difference between the width of an tyre compared to the width of the used rim. Like 235 tyre (9.1/4") width vs 8" rim. The table shows an 245 tyre width should fit good in the rim. Outside consideration of the position in the wheel arch ofcourse.

Sorry I messed up and wrote two times rims! Long day on the office.

Got ya! Yes knew about that, years ago I fell into that trap, I fitted 225 to a 5.5" rim, was like driving on balloons when you turned lol, I eventually worked out what was going on! The joys of youth!

So I stripped the wheels down, had them blasted, sanded them up and sent to the powder coaters, just got them back today. Here is a photo, what do you think of the color? (next to get the tires on)
