M body vs R Body

Thanks for that Captain. And thanks for this amazing forum for this overlooked cars that are in fact great cars. i´m not much of a writer but i like to visit and read the treads.

Love the wheel/tire combination on Einar's car. I have never been a fan of the wire wheel look hubcaps. For these cars, I would love to see them with polished 5 on 5s, or the 1981-1983 Imperial Snowflakes.

I love those New Yorkers, my uncle had one years ago, it was a '79, dark blue with leather. Hidden headlights and full width taillights, looks awesome coming and going. You also find the dash of those are nearly identical to the dash of the J-bodies. The speedometer in my Mirada is out of a 1980 St. Regis cop car, direct bolt in, 160km/h 'certified' replacing the 140 km/h original.

Some more photos of the R body New Yorker

The R body was more the size I was expecting when I went to see my M, but I loved the idea of the full sized motor in a mid-sized car. I like the turn signals on top of the head lights, I did switch the amber bulbs out for white ones though. If they were pop-ups like the R those look much cleaner in the bumper like that. Nice interior, looks like a winner!

I have a J body and its is quite a small car compared to a R body thats for sure! Guess the weight is down on the J body as well, its got only 2 doors for starters, not as wide, not as long. Running gear is going to about the same weight as R body, we all know weight is not our friend :)

if you are intreasted in getting Chrysler New Yorker i think it will be hard to get better example of it than this car you are showing us it looks very nice and orginal and got low miles. it intreasting that the new yorker is unexspectedly light fore it size compered to the M body maybe it because the bumpers are not steel in the new yorker but mazek i think it called. the new yorker is 1,940mm in width and 5,540mm in lenght and 1,728 kg but my mirada is 1,810mm in width and 5,240mm in lenght and 1,515 kg and my Lebaron 1979 2door t top is 1,606 kg i dont have the papers for the width and lenght now .
i show you guys mor pic of my new yorker because of the nice comments but if you dondt want it just say so and i take them out . as you see it not all orginal but i have everything to turn it back. but this is how i like it for now.

Of course we want more pictures. We love Mopar car porn.
Nice hood.

I've had many R bodies over the years (3 NY- 5 Newport) The Newports lasted better than the NY in my opinion. The bumpers were chrome plated aluminum that loved to flake off into mini razor blade pieces. It was so bad that Chrysler made warranty rear bumpers for Newports/ St Regis and Gran Fury from steel (2 of my cars had these). I never saw steel replacement NY bumpers...too bad as that is one of the hardest things to fix on these if they are flaking...nobody will touch them.

That can't be replated?
Mind you that would be pricey.

Cuda (Elnar)......

With a lineup of cars like you have in your signature you're gonna have to post pics of your other rides too.

Looks like my post has opened up to being about what other cool mopar's people own as well as FJM cars, how cool!!! Looks like the chrome on the one I am looking at is in good shape! Just working on the shipping and paying the man for the car!

When they flake it is due to the aluminum corroding which causes large pits and even cracks in the bumpers. In order to get a smooth surface you'd have to grind it and in some cases it woud lead to a piece that is too thin. I looked into a rechrome and none of the shops would do the job because "I wouldn't be satisfied with the end result".

The closest I got was one shop that considered stripping them, and then polishing and anodizing them...but no chrome. I guess it's hard to chrome aluminum?

No price......
I hate no price.
Looks nice but I'd say you could easily put a 1 in front of that mileage.

I see some yellow flags on that one, 1. no price is the first, 2. wierd picture angles that don't really show a close up of the drivers area, could be hiding wear, could be just be bad photographer. 3. will answer to phone numbers only, ok... who doesn't have an email in this day and age, then again, could be typical slightly flaky, but legit cl user..

I think with the amount of money your spending and being out of country I'd stick with the other. don't risk thounsands to try and save a couple hundred. besides, it looks way cooler with the dark interior anyway :icon_thumleft:

I am not interested in that one, I just came across it while on the list, thought maybe someone here might like it since we have been talking about R bodies. Dunno but for some reason doesn't look as nice as the night watch blue one I am looking at, can anyone tell me what is different? (the white side walls on the tires)
