Hey all.
Going to be bringing home my new (to me) '81 Imperial next week and I know I've got issues with it.
Some time in it's past a previous owner yanked the FI and put a 4-bbl on it (plus the Lean Burn got tossed for a Mopar electronic distributor and orange box). He had the presence of mind to label some of the wiring but didn't do this work with the digital dash in mind.
So now I have a running car with no gauges/speedo/etc. It all lights up but that's it.
I know I can just yank everything, build a panel and put a full set of Auto Meter gauges in, but that's not what I would like to do.
Anyone able to point me in a direction on how to fix this?
The seller indicated to me that the Mirada dash might fit as a replacement and that it's analog. Any truth to this?
TIA

When I converted an 81 I had years ago I used every thing off a 318 Mirada and the factory dash still worked in the Imp when I was done, just not the MPG functions on the dash keyboard! There was a special piece on the intake to make all that work in the factory conversion. the speedo has its own electronic conversion module on the left side of the fire wall by the master cylinder. It changes the cabel input to electronic input and should still work either way! Visited this 81 yesterday in a local yard, dig that leopard print on the seats and dash! We got the sun roof mechs out of it last year and the cabal is now functioning in mine!

They have a following in the Ford world.
But everyone I've seen is just used up junk. I worked for a friend of mine that had a contract with the state to work on there cars, you'd get one in that was hit in the back and you'd have to work on the frame in the front to repair old damage first so you could square the back. The Highway Patrol was the hardest on them, they watched to many Dukes of Hazzard TV shows.

Thanks DrLeBaron and Glennb49!!!
I can't wait until I get this Imp home and start making it whole again.

FWIW; I had a 2010 P71 that I loved as a daily driver. Sadly some motherfornicator stole it from my driveway and ended up wrapping it around a telephone pole. (I hope the airbag going off in their face hurt)

Around here in north central WI, 95% of the Crown Vics ever built are either in a scrap yard or were at one time and are now long gone. To see one on the road is very rare and those you do see are FAR from good shape. Usual cause of their demise: Frame rotted away resulting in disconnection of steering, suspension and/or drivetrain components. Gotta love that Wisconsin winter road salt,,,,NOT.

This is all I've got for you at the moment. From the factory books:

Hope it helps.

Many thanks, Poly
But most of the problem is due to the fact that the FI is gone along with many of the related sensors etc.
When I get a chance I'll post a picture of the cute little bundle of wires that is taped to the firewall that was all connected to the factory system.

Your Welcome, Norse. Yea I noticed some of the fuel injection related wiring in the diagram of the bulkhead connector.

I guess the bigger question is who removed the fuel injection system? Most of these cars had real drivability issues so there was an actual service bulletin for replacing the fuel injection with a standard carb. So if the dealer did the work you should be good, and not have to go down that rabbit hole. Now if John Public said let's put a carb on it you might have a problem like a missing logic module. That will require a lot of wire tracing from the diagram in the factory manual.
