    Lighting Questions Before I Spend

There might be a way to wire the white portion to the ignition - so that when it is on they are on, I am thinking that perhaps getting an extra set of the turn signal sockets for the outer parking light will be a good idea to make both blink verses just the one on the inside.

    Lighting Questions Before I Spend

Ok - I have been looking into retrofitting my Pearl, with LED lighting. Headlights, taillights, parking lights - everything.. I found these - and wanted to see if anyone has an opinion... I know I need resistors for the turn signal bulbs, and was wondering if there was a way to use switchback...

    coolant temp sensor location?

Been There!! Most of the clips break as they are just so old - I found that the screws hold the dash panel in nice enough without much concern. As to the gauges - Sounds like the sensor itself might be in need of replacement. I havent ran into that problem on The Pearl yet - only have the...

HELP! Horrible cold starts, clicking and surging until warm

All of the above - now something that I will add, I have a problem with my overflow, or bleed off from my fuel filter. Was causing similar issues, and was even flooding it to the point of killing the engine while driving. A clamp was placed on that hose as a last resort not knowing what else to...

    Interior Woes and Exterior Blight

Thankfully I am lucky that the Pearl is a desert car.. Very little rust and no erosion of the frame etc so far that I can tell. The soaking through of fabric glue is an interesting idea to say the least. I may attempt that towards the back where you can see in the pic the liner fabric is just...

    Interior Woes and Exterior Blight

Ok - the Pearl is running like a champ.. Gas gauge seems to be fixing itself, and I am working on using steel putty to repair a leak in my gas tank... (Kids+Scooter=OOPS) The Pearl is going strong.. However - The exterior paint is all but blowing away. There is tons of oxidation, and even...

87 Fifth Avenue AC compressor Replacement - Oops

In around 2004/5 - the coolant in The Pearl was not present anymore.. All factory parts. A family friend was recharging a fridge at our church, and my dad had him look at my pop's car - (it was not mine yet) so he charged it with the M-(whatever) coolant it was he had. Funny part? The same...

Changing Cluster Bulbs ..... 1988 Fifth

I am definitely following this one - I have working bulbs on my speedometer and that is about it. The gas gauge (Although it is incorrect) went dark years ago - and I have never tried to replace them. The information in my Hayes manual isnt very descriptive on the light removal and replacement...

Detroit - We Have a Problem

Strangely enough after securing vacuum, checking for leaks and etc - clamping the vapor return line from the fuel filter stopped the problem and it runs like an ape... of the Stripe-ed variety. Great acceleration, no lugging, and only has a little problem when the engine, and thereby all...

Detroit - We Have a Problem

Ok - the Pearl is currently sitting at a mechanic friend of mines shop. Here be the problem.. The carb - Holly 6280 - has been rebuilt, new floats and all new plugs etc. It idles like a DREAM, however at low accel, or even mid power on the throttle she starves for gas... Will stall if you dont...

You can upload from your phone straight to the forum if need be - as for the wheels in question I think I’ve seen them before... I’m not sure.

“New” Hubcaps and Carb Fixed so far- The Pearl on her way up!

I’m working on getting that ironed back out after having it rebuilt. Running rough still - but better at the same time. I’ve looked into converting to 4bbl or TBI and man it is expensive. You have the Carter or the Holly 6280?

“New” Hubcaps and Carb Fixed so far- The Pearl on her way up!

Thanks to a fellow member, I now have factory spokes on the Pearl. Here is the rebuilt Holly 6280 - seems to have solved the flooding problem. Apparently there was gunk inside the jets and etc. Hubcaps were gotten from a fellow member - and boy do they look sharp.. Thanks 5thAvenueRob...

    Stereo Replacement

Ok - single DIN with the same exact connections that made the previous 2 DIN thing work - NOW this thing acts like it has no power going to it. I believe the extra wire coming out of the back of this is the ground wire, however the prior radio had none.. If the unit has zero power even though...

    Stereo Replacement

I have the wiring for it, it was a simple connection, but the mounting kit is something I will need to invest in, so that way it will stay secure.

    Stereo Replacement

That is probably what I am going to do.. The radio I took out was a single DIN little thing I had put in years ago and it just sat in the slot, so I dont think it would be a bad idea to exchange for a single, and put in the face bezel behind the regular paneling.

    Stereo Replacement

The Dakota kit might work if I could get everything to go together, but it is still a little too snug in the compartment even after removing the bottom plastic in the slot . This is the bezel :

    Stereo Replacement

Agreed unfortunately - I eyed the unit at the store and thought it was close to the same size as the factory unit, and it is extremely close, but just about a half inch too tall. Maybe just a little more or less. Should have been more measured for the unit. Dunno if I can return it either lol.

    Stereo Replacement

I removed the bezel panel with no issues, however the plastic slot for the radio itself was too small, and there was a metal bar running through the area that had curved edges that stuck up just enough to block the unit. I carefully bent it to slide it in, however it STILL just out way too far...

    Stereo Replacement

ok - I had to buy a new radio unit for The Pearl.. the factory radio went out in 2007 or so, and as such was replaced by a cheap Walmart special of that time. It was too small and just “sat” in the gaping maw that was the radio slot. NOW I bought a bigger and newer one - that actually works -...

    No wire wheelcovers.

Thanks Bud - looking at the shipping options - I don’t know if the USPS flat rate for $19 would work.. it’s a fairly large box however those hubs are rather bulky.
