408 Stroker build begins.

What are you doing to the block? You're really pushing the limits with a factory block.
 
Block will be bored 30 over, line hone, square deck, main stud girdle, oiling upgrades, all arp fasteners.
 
sounds like a good build. it will be tons of fun.

i don't think you will hit your 575-600 hp goal. i think around 540-550 hp with 520-540 tq.
as mentioned, 4500 rpm stall at the minimum. thinking more 4800-5200 rpm. don't worry about street driving it, i used a 5400 rpm on the street with my black R/T.


my first stroker i built was 410''. stage 3 eddie heads from Hughes. claimed 296 cfm but who knows. 9.5 comp, 615/621 lift solid cam, 254/260 dur @ .050 cam with 1.6 rockers, stage 2 ported super victor intake, pro systems 950 carb. 4800 rpm stall, 3.55 gears. car was 3880 lbs without me. it ran 12.05 @ 115 mph with to much convertor slip. i had 8% at the top end. with the right convertor, 11.60's was possible.

you have more compression, less weight which makes me think low 11's with you car.
 
The engine won't live at the strip, but will make some runs for sure. I don't plan on turning it past 6500, so I think it will live just fine.

I'm guessing your actual final drive ratio was quite high with that tall tire?
 
i had 28/9/15 slicks. with the 8% slippage i was over 6000 rpm at the top end with the 3.55 gear.

The you need a cam that peeks around 6200 rpm, 250° duration @ 50 will get you in the ballpark, I stand with the 4500 stall converter...
 
Well bought another house with separate garage just for Modoba! Engine and car work on hold for the moment....to be continued!

...but why both the main stud and girdle though?

The reason I ask is this: previously I was running just the factory main caps and ARP hardware (bolts)...and yup, a little tell-tale cap walk.

This time I buttoned everything up with an ARP mains stud-kit...no runtime experience yet, but my God, the difference in just assembling the thing and torquing things down...holy smokes...the feel I had in my torque wrench was that of the full assembly being all "one-piece", meaning the stud kit substantially stiffened up the whole bottom end.

It is the first time I used a main stud-kit and I was absolutely amazed by that.
 
Just added rigidity and insurance. I want this thing to live, hence improved oiling in the block as well.
 
Rotating assembly is done. Balanced with a 1884 gram bob weight.
