I have a 4 door 1981 Gran Fury at my storage..the blue 318 in my garage is for it...I robbed the cold air intake tube off it...it must be an F body also because it worked like a charm...I am off tomorrow and hopefully it will be a great paint day for the air cleaner..
Got some bling on today...also wrinkle coated the air cleaner..
Today I was off and enjoying the nice wheather...drove the Dart around the neighborhood...got the chrome covers installed...and got the air cleaner wrinkle coated..it has to dry for 48 hours before it can be handled...
Got the air cleaner on tonight...it looks good to me...will even look better with the 318 4 BBL cap on it...started her up and checked for fuel leaks...everything was great and I found out what was making the throttle stick sometimes...if you use a two barrel throttle cable holder on a 4 barrel carb it is too far towards the center of the intake..I bent it over towards the valve cover and wah la it fixed that problem..still have to find a hose to connect the breather to the air cleaner...
The louvers showed up...I scraped off the butle tape and then got the remainder off with mineral spirits...I tried mineral spirits for cleaning the paint off of the other side and no wano...any ideas from others on how to remove paint from plastic? Anyways here is what they will look like...minus the tape and black coloring....
Got the air breather hose on...it kinda looks okay for now
Today at lunch I got a 5/8" heater hose and a bendable spring to fab up the breather to air cleaner hose..this is the best I can do for now..I think it looks okay...
I then spent about an hour and a half tonight rubbing on one of the window louvers with steel wool and mineral spirits...I tried some orange paint stripper and it did remove the paint but I was scared it would start to remove some of the plastic also...have to find another method to do it...we have a soda blaster at work and after looking through one of Eastwood's catalogs it is the way to go on plastic and fiberglass...will call them on Monday and talk to the head of the body shop at work...I am open for suggestions..
It took four and a half hours but it is in there and looks alot better...
I got the new booster and master cyinder installed...man was it tight and hard to work under neath the dash to get it removed from the brake pedal...putting the new one back in was easier and I bench bled it on the car and did not have to bleed the brakes...very good brake pedal response when done...
got the wire loom done before installing the new booster...
Got the 318 pie pan for the air cleaner and a couple of more things..got the inner fender heater hose bracket...coated the part that will touch the hoses coated with 4 heavy coats of plasticoat....now people won't have to ask me about the engine size...
Got the heater hose bracket installed today...also went to the doctor...
Went to the doctor today for the congestion and sinus crud only to find out that I now have bronchitis..had a shot in my ass and have to inhale Advair twice a day for ten days...good thing I don't smoke anymore...okay I only got the heater hose bracket installed tonight...but nothing really stops me..
Okay not as fast as before...remember that I have bronchitis....did the inhaler thing at lunch today and it helped..have to do it again tonight before bed...okay..I googled the plastic stripping deals...last two days I had Dot 3 brake fluid on them and it didn't really remove any paint...I washed the window louvers of with hot soapy water..I then taped off a section and tried the orange citrus stipper again for 30 minutes..it softened up the paint but I had to scrub it down again with mineral spirits and steel wool again...today I found this smart strip...water based and safe to use to remove paint on anything including plastic and fiberglass...soda blasting plastic it safe also but the cheapest one I found was 300 bucks not including the soda media
Long story...but my phone was lost in our automation system today
My blackberry disappeared in the automation system today...I was working all over the place once the system was started up...I back tracked all my steps but could not locate it...I did however finally get the power steering high pressure and suction hoses changed out...fill it up...fired it up and no leaks..topped off the fuild level as needed...I ho ho hoed up my daugther's camera...here's some pics..
Today I yanked the whole top end off..I wanted to do this to clean up the intake manifold and get ready for the car show I am going to next Saturday...got the intake off...the water pump off and much painted..the intake and some of the brackets...here goes some pics...
I plugged this hole with j-b weld and a 1/4" pipe plug...
I found my phone today so I am back to the fuzzy pics
Today I found my blackberry had landed inside our palletizer...Friday I had to replace a couple of damaged packages on top of one pallet..it must have gotten knocked off my belt and fell right in the corner of a ledge near the bottom of it...so I am back to the fuzy pics...got home and busted my ass to get stuff done..the pics speak for themselves...
the balancer and timing cover are coming off tomorrow for new paint also...
Got the harmonic balancer off...the timing cover off...got the crank pulley, timing cover and balancer stripped of paint...the balancer is toast..I will try to get a new one by Friday that is my deadline for being done..got the timing cover taped off and ready for paint..the pulley and water outlet and also ready for tomorrow...I got the top almost put back together also..starting to look better already..
Long night again...pics speak for themselves...have to zap the balancer bolt with the impact tomorrow then I can install the pullys and such..need two more clamps for the top hose...clean up the alternator and put the fuel pump on..I robbed the fuel pump and carb off the other little blue 318 I have in the garage..
Done except for hooking up the spark plug wires and starting her up...that will be tomorrow..I took the day off tomorrow..I finished mounting the alternator..the radiator shroud...the fan and then filled her up with distilled water..I always fill from the open thermostat opening to reduce the chance of air pockets..I them put the themostat in and them finish filling from the radiator...almost done..I also got rid off some rusty header bolts and installed some stainless steel ones..
Crank and Crank no fuel....went back to the old carter fuel pump...crank and crank no fuel...I poured some down the carb and it fired right up and continued to run...guess not enough to start sucking the fuel from the tank...I had to adust the idle setting it was running at 1100 rpm and I dropped it back down to 750...the Holley carb is much better at idle...less fumes at the exhaust...have a long day tomorrow with the car show at Houston Funeral Museum...Holloween thing...ordered new alternator and power steering pump today....I drove it today with 87 degree ambient air temp and it stayed right at 160 degrees...I am running a 160 high flow stat right now....
I had the wifey with me today...we went to the second car show I did this year...It was sponsered by the Houston Mopar Connection Club at Houston Funeral Museum..I won a first place tropy at the show...mine won the one out of 130 cars picked by one of the sponsers...there were about six of the big trophys and they were awarded in different divisions..
First of all this fan is what came off a Winnebago 440 motorhome...it use to cool off my 340 roller motor in my Dart...might go on this car...wish I had air...still working on that...maybe someday...I got my new alternator from O'Rielly's today...old one looked tired and old...I took the purple tag off the old and traded it in for the newer one..second and last pic...cleaner..
today I also ordered a rebuilt power steering pump...the one in the car has lots of end play in the shaft bearing and it is starting to squeal..took it off tonight and stripped the brackets of paint...
