After quite a bit of finagling with it, the car is *finally* level. (Or at least it’s all within a degree according to my phone’s app. My backyard does not have a level spot in it.)

Next weekend I can weld on a pair of subframe connectors to it.

I’ve got two: a YesWelder 135 that I have set up for Fluxcore, and a PrimeWeld CT520D that I haven’t used yet. Now that I’ve got something with a 220v outlet I’m going to practice with it for a bit.

I tried flux core once, when I ran out of gas. A spool of flux core came with the welder, and I had saved it. Did one weld, put solid wire back in, and got in the car to go get a full cylinder of Argon/CO2.....Flux core sucked (JMO).

First time welding with a bottle was a religious experience.

Practice welding overhead too.

I think I'm going to check on bottle prices as well. This is taking longer than expected (I tend to be a bit lazy at times.)

I don't know how much we were paying. The initial bottle was a lot and I think they exchanged it rather then refilling it and another place was refilling it for a lot less. The bottle with the welder now looks like the initial one I got (a friend of mine has been dealing with it since). So it pays to shop around a bit if possible.

I have the 10lb cylinder. On those you buy the first one, cylinder and gas. After that it's just the cost of the gas (exchange). Think my original cylinder and gas was like $85, but that was in1987. Last exchange was a few years ago, maybe 2018, and was $48(?) at Advance Auto Parts. Amazing how long 10 lbs of argon/CO2 lasts, even when doing a lot of welding. Mine,,,,,,,,,has sat unused for probably 5 years now. Didn't need to weld anything for awhile, LOL.

Progress!

....I forgot how heavy and how much of a PITA the front seat is to take out of these.
The shifter boot is from a K-car Daytona. :p
Back seat, Carpet, and the rest of the dash comes out tomorrow.

The dash is mostly done, but I’ve hit a snag: the HVAC unit.

I really wish it could’ve all came out at one time like when they put these things together at the factory.

Stuck on defrost can be caused by no vacuum to the controls. Defrost is the default mode.

Carefully check your vacuum harness, and especially the tube going to manifold vacuum under the hood.

Is the blend door on that car operated by a servo or vacuum? Mine stopped working because the electrical connector lost tension on pins for the servo control board. I scuffed the pins a little and added solder to build them up. Been fine for 12 years now.

Looks to be vacuum-operated.

I think so.

it's a monster compared to what's going to replace it.
