No throttle lag between idle and W.O.T. ?
They just finished putting it together. Only have clips of it idling at the moment. I’m curious to see how it performs actually moving down the road. Just an interesting build.
Apparently the car owner has the last 10 Fish carbs ever made, a side draft version and different mounting base plates.
Here’s a link to it idling in the driveway.

They just told me, it stumbles a little from idle to WOT. Their going to be changing out baseplates on the carb to something with a little more fuel restriction. Maybe try the side draft Fish carb. Otherwise, it pulls and shifts nice and firm and can keep up with cars on the freeway now.

From what they told me, the four barrel base plate that’s mated to the carb would be big enough to support a built 350sb similar to a huge 4V and turbo so, they’re going to try a smaller baseplate that should be better suited to the /6.
Interesting that a carb that was seemingly so effective, efficient and responsive would just kind of fizzle out.

Maybe it could have been that not many people ever heard of the carb. This is the first I've ever known of it. Kind of like when you see a "Going out of business" ad for some local store and it's a place you never knew existed. Lack of marketing or advertising leads to lack of business and closure. If they don't know you built it, they won't come. Just a theory.

“Fish carburetors were not “super” carbs., but they were enough of an improvement that they were attacked, suppressed, and the business driven out of the country.”

“The “Fish” was seen as a very serious threat to the “Original Equipment” establishment and could not be tolerated. J.R. suffered years of dirty tricks and persecution in an attempt to put him and his carburetor out of business. He even had his mail stopped on trumped up charges which were entirely UNTRUE and the case never went to court. It was simply a deliberate time wasting exercise to stop his cash flow and ruin him. He was not to be beaten and moved to Florida where he kept going by selling carbs to individuals including some wealthy big game fishermen.”

“At about that same time an up-and-coming local Stock Car driver got involved. The famous and almost legendary “Fireball Roberts” who drove the original M-1 car and Fish carburetor in place of the big 4 barrel “Works” carbs. that everyone else was using. He literally left them standing with his otherwise out-of-date car.
The “Works” organizations did not like it one bit and again the “dirty tricks” started. “Fireball Roberts” frequently made Pole Position and gained the trophy. Repeatedly, however, his race tires developed “mysterious problems” when leading the race convincingly. These “faults” suspiciously did not seem to occur in the “Works” cars.”

Fish Carburetors – Ross Carburetors

Good old fashion American sabotage seems to have been their down fall. Too effective/efficient, didn’t break enough to need replacement or parts...so it had to go.

That seems to be a common story among all sorts of better ideas that potentially threaten "the establishment", where they get sabotaged or slandered and forced right out of business.

Guy was chugging along a steady 40mph, nice looking Panetela sized cigar, hand signaling as he went through traffic. Good way to spend the last of the sunny days in the Midwest.

Not a huge fan, but if the opportunity ever arose I wouldn't pass on it either.
Always have a spot in my heart for Chevelles, Ford Victoria’s, Mercury Montclair’s and 1960s Mercedes 200Ds.
Before my mom brought home her 1970 Duster (my uncle owns it now) those were the cars I remember seeing out in the driveway and in old family photos when I was growing up.
