Aspen "Stocker" project

What cam did you run? And can you post a bigger screenshot of the complete pull numbers?

George the Aspen came back to life today but with some drama. Had 0 oil pressure. Went through a few different possibilities and ended up changing out the guage. It worked. A few more minor tweeks and it will be off to the track for some testing.

"Alrighty! George is ready to go! Just need a dry Friday or Saturday this week."

It seems to rain all the time now. Very few decent weekends around here. It gets frustrating.

Okee dokee! Got home from Indy a little late last night. Brutally HOT! Other than that it was a successful first outing with the car. Hadn't raced at a divisional race in 10 years. So had to scrape some of the rust off my brain. After each pass it was coming back to me though. And each was an improvement over the previous run. Reaction times were good during qualifying but I but saved the worst for first round of eliminations. A very lousy .116! Rats! Doesn't matter though as I finally got some seat time in the car and even with lousy conditions it ran under the index. So now the real work begins, finding a few hundredths here and a tenth there. But that's what class racing is about. I love it! Glad to be back at it.

What does your car need to weigh (lMinimum) what does it weigh? The reason I ask is that you need to find another 50 hp or pull 500 pounds or both. More than likely the 500 pounds is more doable.

That's the thing about the "Stock" class.....it has a minimum weight with driver that you have to make run under his N/SA class index of 13.00 (minimum performance standard, which you can't dial slower), under very restricted rules for the entire car. Anything past this point will be gradually more expensive and/or a lot of work tuning & refining. i.e.: He can get more expensive, lighter wheels to reduce rotating weight, but the car still has to weigh the minimum overall. (probably in the 3350 - 3650 lbs range - don't have time to look it up the specific number at the moment.) Try different converters, carb tuning, cam tuning, shift points, etc. Gains may be there, but very small. But the initial goal is running under the index, which he did! It's up to driver ability & car consistency now, like a bracket race. However, IF he meets up with another N/SA classed car, it's heads-up.

For my combo the minimum weight is 3505 with driver. Weighed in at 3525. First time out with this car. HP is more than adequate at 362 and 377 TQ. I bought the 8 3/4 complete minus the brake hardware. Came out of a 67 Satellite with a big block. Moser spool and axles w/ 4.10 gears. The plan was to put in 4.88's but ran in to engine issues. After freshening the engine and blowing my budget I decided to run the car the way it was. At this point I was tired of Not racing and went to Indy for their Div. 3 race. Lousy conditions with 4000 foot plus DA. Had a pair of 9x28 M/T radials (87.8" circumference) to try and compensate for the 4.10's. They still weren't short enough as it's going through the lights at only 5800 rpm. Going to race the car as it is for the rest of the season and change to 4.88's over the winter. Still have 4 races planned for this year and just glad to finally be racing again. Other future changes will consist of converter and a low gear set in the trans, (and other "speed secrets") LOL! Thanks for your input, Craig.
