Aspen "Stocker" project

A friend had a 340 that the cam bearing spun in the bore and the lifters made all kind of noise from not getting oil on one side of the engine..
 
So what is the fix for a spun cam bearing?
Wonder if you could install with Loctite?o_O
 
Didn't spin but took out a big chunk. Engine is going through a complete rebuild.

That's better than having it spin.
If your shop has a dyno have them run your motor and setup your tune.
 
At first glance right above the arrow looks like a small scuff in the cam bore which would leave a high spot on the bearing on install which could cause a hotspot and lead to the shell de-laminating. But its hard to tell in pics.

Since lock tite was mentioned, its rare I ever find one that seems to install easier then others but I have taken a sharp nail on the outside of the bearing shell and marked a super lite line in it 180 from each other to add some grip and even that shows up on the inside on disassembly.

What did the cam lookie like?

Look at the grove on the other side of the bering, across from the arrow .
What did the other bearings look like?
It's possible the cam wasn't true but I'd like to see the other bearings.
The only time I've seen delamination like that it was OEM bearings.

The other bearings looked ok. Journal was messed up on that bearing. Changing cams anyway as this is not the correct lift cam for this engine. Suppose to be .390 in. and .420 ex. Bruce said it was .410-.410 when he called Comp Cams and read off the number to them.
 
maybe somebody scraped the bearing too much to make the cam fit. the block could have a bore alignment issue.
 
Bruce Parsons knows these motors very well and know you’ll be very satisfied with his work. Stock Eliminator motors can be very expensive if you buy all the good pieces. Good luck with it.

Yes picked up the engine Tuesday morning. Very pleased with the numbers although I forgot to take a picture of the last pull. The picture is the one before that. Ended up at 362 HP @ 5800 and 377 torque @ 4000. 318 4bbl. 308 heads with 1.78 in. 1.50 ex. valves. 13.00 index running in N/SA. Time to put it in the car and go racing!

I think you stock class guys keep your numbers to your self don't you?:)

OK...after my help to put the engine back in the car bailed, I purchased an electric hoist and did it myself. Still hit some bumps in the road but managed just fine. That hoist really helped! Will hook up everything else in the next day or so.

Are you planning on pulling your 318 a lot?:)
That's quite the answer to the problem of doing it yourself, a remote control would be nice why you're under the car lining up bolts. :D
