My very first car technically. Dad bought it for me to work on when I was 13, in 1977. Paid a whole $35 for it. Base model 1957 Dodge Coronet 6 with a 230 flat head I-6, 3 on the tree, rubber floor, manual steering and brakes, etc and only 75,000 miles. The plates had expired in 1973. Think the only options it had was a heater, dual outside mirrors and full wheel covers. Some of the orange/red (not sure what it exactly was) and the white is original paint yet and the interior was black and gold cloth/vinyl. First year for torsion bars and the 8 3/4" axle.

Never got it on the road but it was a start. Never forget, me on one side of the garage working on this car, my dad in the other stall working on one of his cars. My mother always said she didn't have to worry about us because all she had to do was look in the garage, and there we would be.
This is from the day it went to a new owner 30 years later in '07. Coldest day of the last 2 centuries I think. Thermometer was right around -25 and it was colder than cold out. We had to heat the winch up on the guys trailer to get it to work, using a heat gun. It was rifrickingdiculous.
Anyways, couple of random pics:

First car was a 1968 Mercury Montclair. My Great grandfather purchased it new, a distant cousin had it briefly in the early 90s, then my grandfather got it from him in about 1998 and I inherited it about 2002-2003 when I was 13-14 and my grandfather had passed away.
Had a 390, with a three speed automatic. Had fixed it up and drove it through most of high school and would eventually trade it for a v8 swapped, 89 ford ranger with a posi rear end and a suspension kit (off roading was my first real automotive hobby). Gas had gotten pretty expensive around 2006-2007 and, I literally just couldn’t afford to fill the gas tank and get a whopping 9mpg and my parents were not the type to give me gas money, my responsibilities were mine and mine alone...so I did the only thing I ever regretted and got rid of it.
These are some old Polaroid photos my grandfather took when he had listed the car for sale in the local paper. No one ever made an offer on it. Pretty rare car these days, I haven’t ever seen another one.

Five hundred your story made me think, I got my first car at 14. A friend of the family sold me a 66 Fairlane 2 door ht for $150, probably a third of the value of car. I painted the car put wheels and tires on it fixed what need fix'n but the thing that mom didn't know about was I put 2000+ miles on the car before I got my license. We told her 25 years later and she was pissed like it happened yesterday. Kids!

Christine's older second cousin maybe:p. Christine was a '58 Plymouth Fury 2 door hardtop with a 350 ci big block and dual fours. The Coronet 4 door sedan in the pics only had 230 ci of flat head six with a gaping 1 barrel carb

This is my first "car", a '66 Belvedere. I traded the '73 Datsun pickup I bought from my grandpa when I was 15 for this car. Pic is from 1983 right after graduation. The car only had about 60K miles on it when I got it and it got the nickname "the cruising vessel". I think it's the last 4 door car I owned. My little brother bought the car from me in late '84 and promptly totaled it. The rubber brake line on the front drivers side ruptured and he smacked into the back of a guy at a stop light. 1966 was the last year for the single reservoir master cylinders. His wreck may have been avoided if it was a '67 model with the dual reservoir.

Still no snow down here. Got rain and freezing temps to make the roads a nightmare but, no snow; yet.
Side note- Cooper Cobra GT tires: awful in dry and wet conditions, oddly great in the snow lol

We got 2" of rain (and a t-storm) over the weekend and now this...........I drive a 2 wheel drive Dakota in the winter and the Firestone Winterforce tires earn every dollar they cost on days like this! With regular all season tires it gets stuck in 1/4" of snow, seriously. Blizzak's are actually better than the Winterforce but also twice the price so.........................

I keep blizzaks on our MKZ and had them on my 200. They are worth every red cent during the winter lol
the front left tires side wall spider cracked real bad on my 5th ave a couple months ago and had to grab tires quicker than I had planned. The Cobras seemed to be the best bang for the buck at the time; won’t make that mistake again.

I used to swap back and forth twice a year but since the Dakota is now used primarily in winter only, they stay on. Sad part is, I've got a set of summer tires for it with 5,000 miles on them that just sit there.
